The long cold walk home

Well yesterday all that New Yorkers have feared happened. Yep the STRIKE came upon us and let me tell you it was a crazy day. I’ve been staying at a family member’s house - with no internet access but boy that it is a whole different story - since the weekend waiting, then waiting to hear if the strike was really going to happen. Imagine now if you will my glee when on Monday there was subway and bus service. I practically danced to work. Then the next day I couldn’t stay up anymore so I went to sleep then got up on the cold Tuesday morning to hear there was no bus or subway service. Well since I’ve been in New York for a number of years and considered I can handle this like everything we’ve had happen over the last few year (heck for the blackout I walked out of Manhattan to my house so what if there was no subway or bus service). Well that was my second mistake. What was my first you may want to know?

Hah. The first was being that dutiful employee and deciding to go into to work. The third was thinking that due to the holidays people would be more kind to there fellow man. Although not everyone was rude and I did make a few new friends. Nothing like being stranded for hours to make you become close real fast. LOL. My fourth through 2 million (this is a small number I think there was at least double that) was going out into the mad house with 1,999,999 others who also decided to go to work. By the time I was done for the day then finally got home I decided I wasn’t going anywhere again until the strike was done.

Please I’m such a sucker. I’m back at work again today with freezing unmentionable body parts to prove of my trek. Oh Joy I still have the walk home to appreciate my stupidity.

But no matter what I had to go through to get home. I’m in love with New York and at least I get a scenic route home to see and appreciate the place I live in.

Amazing Writer Race

Okay I’ll admit it I like reality shows. There has been an influx of reality shows but in my humble opinion there are only a few that are worth watching, I won’t go into a list of them but one of my favorites, The Amazing Race had the finale last night. After watching the contestants - this year it was families – run around the world all vying to win a million dollars I was pleased with the outcome. Then I started thinking that I was in a sort of Amazing Race myself. The Amazing Writer Race that is. Now don’t think like that. I know exactly what I am getting at.

Imagine for a moment what the Amazing Race really is. It isn’t only about the money (which is a million dollars) it’s about the experience on the race. Now lets me give you the break down on what are the similarities and differences between The Amazing Race and The Amazing Writer Race.

Starting

Amazing Race – before the race even hits TV a call goes out for entrants. Contestants have to sign up and I’m sure go through process before they are picked.

Amazing Writer Race-

Similarities – Before you can become a writer and idea must form. That call to pick up the pen or peck on that keyboard to pound out a story.

Differences – A writer is the only one who judges if you are worthy to be in the race and what must be done.

Point A to B

Amazing Race – once in the race you have to get from point so and so to here or there with your wits, leg work and a little money

Amazing Writer Race-
Similarities – As a writer you use your wits, legwork, and money to get your writing out there.

Differences – The road to Point A to B changes as you do and the way there is not clear cut way. It is up to you to get there at your own will.

Places, Culture, and Customs

Amazing Race - Each leg of the race the contestants goes to a new place they have to make themselves familiar with the places, culture and various customs. They even participate in some of these.

Amazing Writer Race-

Similarities – a writer has to do the same thing get in tune with the place, the scents, and people there.

Differences – the writer is the one who builds the world, the cultures and customs they follow. This gives you more leeway to make it yours.

People

Amazing Race - along the way you meet various people in these places you visit that.

Amazing Writer Race-

Similarities – In your writing life you met and get to know so many people that you take away something from each.

Differences – You get to know the people longer and better and form lasting friendships.

Detours/Road Blocks

Amazing Race - along the way there are detours and challenges to be performed before a contestant can move on.

Amazing Writer Race-

Similarities – In your writing life you have detours and challenges to met also

Differences – The type of challenges and the amount of time you have to overcome each is set by you. How you go about it is also set by you.

Other Contestants

Amazing Race - you have others that are in the race vying to get that money.

Amazing Writer Race-
Similarities – as a writer you also have other writer’s who is vying for that book deal.
Differences – The support and true friendships that you find with other writer who are going after the same thing.

Winning

Amazing Race - At the end of all of that there is one winner.

Amazing Writer Race-
Similarities – A writer definitely wants to be a winner.
Differences – However there is many winners in this race and some of them are your friends who also is in this race as an amazing writer.

Timeframe

Amazing Race - there is a set timeframe to get things some

Amazing Writer Race-
Similarities – You set goals and times to be done with various things.
Differences – Your timeframe as an author is as long as you want and the race doesn’t end until you let it.

So in this Amazing Writer Race according to your genre there is more romance, mystery, far off place or any number of things. They lead most times to a happy ending or resolution. Whereas in my case as an erotic writer there is an added bonus of not only getting to build my own worlds the way I like them. My characters get to have lots hot spicy sex and still find that happy ending.

When it comes down to it the major difference in the Amazing Writer Race is even after we have won the prize – a book contract – we still keep racing to get the next, then the next and next until infinity. So we are always racing. And after that book is out we enter a whole new phase of the race.

I’m still striving for the prize – a book contract – and I know that even when I get that win I have a lot more wins to go in my Amazing Writing Race.

So come on and share how the Amazing Race or any other reality show or even regular shows relate to you and your life??

Bye-Bye old friend/hello new friend

My old computer went to that great big gigabyte heaven. After it crashed in October by some miracle I got it working again. Then in November it said bye, bye just as I was making some great headway in site updates and my newsletter.

My new computer recently came and I’m in love. Love I tell ya. The speed and versatility it provides is amazing. LOL.

Anyway I posted the Passionate Gazette newsletter for December 2005 to the yahoo group on December 11, 2005. In it is the next results and the next vote for the Savoy Valley Project.I have a few fun things coming to my site. And there is something special I have planned for the blog which ties in with my Crenshaw Café – my chat group. …..Stay tuned……

Was it a disappearing act or something else….

It probably seemed like I disappeared. Well I didn’t. I’ve been under weather. I have been very ill and off-line. Was feeling to crappy to do anything except lay in bed and wonder when would this flu bug that decided to lay siege on me would pack up and go away. Finally it packed its bag and I said bye bye the shouted thank god then proceeded to cough until I saw stars. LOL. But hey it still felt good to at least be able to do something else beside moan (shoot it wasn’t even moaning in a good way). Boy is it good to be feeling halfway human again. Being ill is the pits. Ahhh… I am back in the land of the feeling good.

Now that I am able to get to a computer I want to make note of a few things.

Passionate Gazettenewsletter for October 2005 wasn't posted due tomy illness. Look for a double packed issue for the November 2005issue. It will be posted around sometime after the week of November14. Around that same time in the newsletter and on my sitethe results from the Savoy Valleyvote will be posted. Also the vote that was supposed to post in October as well as the November vote will be posted so you can cast your vote.

I’ve also extended My deepest Fantasy Contest deadline has been extended to November 30, 2005 so you still have time to send in those entries. The site still reads old date but will be updated shortly.

My mind has been racing since I was laid up. For those of you who know me when I am sick I come up with all kinds of things. So as a heads up I’ve got a little something percolating that I will be posting real soon.

Fantasy – What is it really?

I was thinking more about fantasies and started a discussion in my chat group - Crenshaw Café
I looked up the meaning of fantasy and there were so many meanings and variations to this it was eye opening. I’m going to start with my least favorite then go on to my most favorite.

My least Favorite:

Fantasy~

An unrealistic or improbable supposition.

Now where do I even begin on this one? This is such a cold, analytical way to look at fantasy. From time we are born we are taught to believe in many things that would from this meaning be considered “unrealistic” or “improbable”. The tooth fairy, Santa clause, Easter bunny, and sandman are but a few of the things we grew up with. It is a part of life that we believe at least until such things as this meaning makes us realize different. As a writer this meaning is totally out of my scope. I create living fantasy for readers and enjoy the hell out of doing it {grin}.

Now my most favorite is more like my way of thinking.

My most favorites:

Fantasy ~
Imagery that is more or less coherent, as in dreams and daydreams, yet unrestricted by reality.

Or

Fantasy~
An imagined event or sequence of mental images, such as a daydream, usually fulfilling a wish or psychological need.

All Hail the Fantasy brigade.

Ahhh. Now this is more like it. I create novels that are unrestrained by reality. Heck I build worlds that defy definition and enjoy each and every improbable part of it. I love fulfilling a wish. Wishes of a great story with lots of sex, fantasy and escape. Yes escape from the norm. I enjoy the forays of an alpha male hero type, kick butt heroine whether they be human, vampire, shape shifter, witch or anything else. Becoming free of the restrictions of the imagination is what I strive to achieve. Take a risk. Become a daredevil. Love, fight and live with all those characters of fantasy. Isn’t this really what it is all about.

I tap into the fantasy I enjoy and bring it into reality at least for the time you read my stories and then after when it is remembered by you. Here is my definition of fantasy.

Taige definition of fantasy:

Escaping the constrains of reality and making a reality of your own. A reality where your deepest desires, needs, wants and all things your imagination can think of is real as long as you believe.

Novels are always an adventure and isn’t that why you read. To be drawn into a fantasy. At least for a time before real life issue take over. Fantasy is all about imagination and using it to escape. I enjoy bring a little escape to you.

So tell me what does fantasy mean to you….

…hmmm what to say first…

Will you believe that I am shy? Okay so you’re not buying that eh. I can’t blame you. I don’t have a shy bone in body. I’ve had this blog for a little while although I haven’t posted until now. Nah it wasn’t shyness why I didn’t post I just couldn’t think what I wanted to say. Then I thought hey just say something and don’t worry about it so I’m going to do as I do best and write whatever comes into my head. I’ve had an story burning in my brain for a while and since I like a challenge I will just write the idea here. Now bear with me since this will be unedited and shooting from the hip.

Passion Confidential: Her Every Desire

© Copyright Taige Crenshaw, 2005

The pains in her legs were excruciating but Kenya Blair refused to give up the burn. The burn that everyone claimed that you could work through to get to nirvana of the ultimate exercise.

They were all full of shit there was no such thing. All there was is pain to get a body that was supposedly considered the perfect. Chuckling under her breath Kenya was glad she didn’t buy into it. She was happy with her size 20 body.

When she had signed up a month ago for the gym in walking distance of her house and business the sales rep had tried to talk her into hiring a trainer to lose weight. Since her temper had gotten her kicked out of the last gym she was in she had resisted pitching him through a window instead she had in her most professional voice cut him down to size. Thankfully she hadn’t seen him again.

Coming to the gym wasn’t about that supposedly perfect body. She was healthy and comfortable with her body. Reaching for the controls on the treadmill she increased the speed and incline then continued with her workout. After a few seconds her body was back in rhythm with the machine. Blocking everything out she focused on her problem.
Something was nagging at her and for the life of her she couldn’t figure out what it was.

Her business, Voluptuous was doing well. The contractor, Kryan Ames had finally finished renovating her house to her specifications. Thinking of all that hot manliness Kenya sighed. She would miss seeing him. Hearing his deep rich voice that always made her want to take him to the bedroom and lock the door. Since he never gave any indication of interest and she didn’t believe in mixing business with pleasure she hadn’t. Although it was a near miss many a times instead when the urge to jump him had been to strong she had to state herself with her trusty old friend Mr. Big.
Shrugging she turned her attention back to what could be bothering her. Her business was in order. Her home was the oasis she imagined.

What am I missing?

“How are you enjoying your membership at Savoy’s Ms. Blair?” a smooth liquid baritone asked behind her.

Kenya gave yelp jumped then fell backwards. Strong arms caught her against a hard body.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you?” Are you all right?” There was concern in his voice.

Before she could answer she felt his member stir and press against her butt. Her own body got wet in response. Kenya gulped. In that instant it dawned on her what she was missing.

Sex. And lots of it.

Breathless Kenya replied. “Yes I’m okay at least I didn’t fall on my rump. Now that would have been mortifying.”

The man chuckled then slowly loosened his arms. Before turning Kenya tried to get in control. Taking a deep breath she turned and glanced up. She wasn’t surprised to see the tall chocolate Adonis that had been watching her work out for the last few nights. Up this close she finally had an answer to what color was his eyes. They were such a rich green that they were startling. The intensity in his eyes caused her heart to flutter. He smiled a quick sexy tilt to his lips. All she could think about was how fast it would take for them to get alone then get naked, sweaty and all over each other. The smile on his lips got wicked. The acknowledgement in his eyes was like he knew what she was thinking.

To be continued……

Let me know what you think of my writing straight from the hip. That’s it for my first blog. Hey I think I might be hooked already. LOL.
