Snippet Saturday - Travel

Today’s snippet theme is Travel. Enjoy a look from one of my books.

An snippet from Carnal Awakening

carnalawakening_msr_smallGlancing at the flower she saw it fold into itself then open again as if shooing her to him. Glancing back at him she cocked her head to the side and watched him.

“I don’t want to.”

He frowned then started to mutter too low for her to hear. As if reaching a decision he turned to face her, his face went blank and his eyes cold. “You don’t have a choice.”

At the challenge in his voice her blood heated. She liked nothing better than a challenge. Watching him under her lashes she waited for his next words.

“It is my duty to save you from yourself,” he stated as he held out his hand.

At the cold touch of metal she looked down, surprised to see the gold handcuffs on her wrists. Looking back at him she jumped. He was standing directly in front of her. She hadn’t even heard him move. Grabbing her arm in a firm grip he pulled her into him. Looking up into his face Shay raised herself on tiptoes and licked across his lips. He groaned. Using the opportunity, Shay stroked her tongue into his mouth. Lazily she savored him and he tasted as she expected—raw and male. His tongue dueled with hers playfully then he sucked her deeper into his mouth. Whimpering she leaned in closer.

Suddenly he wrenched his lips away with a mutter. “I am honor bound to protect you even from yourself.”

His eyes blazed and a green mist started to swirl around him. It encircled her and suddenly the floor disappeared from beneath her feet. Before she could even think about screaming the mist cleared and her feet hit ground. With a fleeting glance around at the lush plants in every color of the rainbow and the sounds of various animals calling out to each other Shay smiled. It was perfect.

Looking back at Mikhail standing a few feet ahead with his back to her, Shay could see the rigid way he held himself. He turned to face her and stated in a soft tone. “We have been taken off course Shay by the will of the Immortal Blossom. I need you to think clearly and control yourself, for both of our sakes.”

She didn’t know what he was talking about. Her mind was clear and she knew exactly what she needed to do. Holding her cuffed hands in front of her, she whispered, “Sericanas”.

His eyes widened as the cuffs started to heat on her wrist then disappeared. His arms jerked in front of him and the cuffs reappeared on his wrists. Seeing them Shay smiled then took off in a run straight for him.

Mikhail took a step back then stopped. The cool determined look in his eyes made her stop a few steps before she reached him. He licked his lips in a slow and deliberate manner. Following his movements Shay felt a ripple of heat go down her spine. From a distant part of her mind she knew she was in an elaborate fantasy but she didn’t care. She wanted this and nothing would stop her from having him.

Snippet Saturday – Uniforms

blog-header-option2

Today’s snippet theme is Uniforms. Enjoy a look from one of my books.

godstyletemptation_msr_smallAn snippet from God Style Temptation

Picking up whatever she could get she threw it at him as she stumbled backward. Pots, food and knives—he caught each one effortlessly. Breathless she stopped backing up. The man stopped and watched her waiting to see what she would do next.

Frustrated Aurora screamed. “What the fuck are you?”

He smiled, a nasty little twist of his lips. “Besides the man who saved you pretty little ass from being a popsicle? A god.”

Hearing that Aurora felt fury flash through her. Not stopping to think she headed straight for him. The man’s eyes dropped and he grinned, a devilish quirk of his lips. Realizing she was still naked and he was ogling her Aurora was even angrier. Slowing she added more sway in her hips and watched his eyes light in appreciation. She looked at him and saw his smile widen. Returning his smile she let her hand flash up to deck him. He caught it.

“Uh-huh not that again. You’re such a violent little thing.” The man’s tone was calm.

Ignoring his comment she swung with her other hand. He sighed and caught it too. He raised an eyebrow as if saying “now what”. From how they were standing she estimated he was about six three to her six feet. Jerking her head forward she hit him with it. She felt his nose break, as was her intention. A grim smile curved her lips. He let her go and stepped back. Swinging at him again Aurora found her hand caught. Instinctively she swung with the other. He again caught it then turned her around and pulled them behind her back. Jerking her head back she tried to hit him with her head.

“Shit. Will you calm down?” the man growled.

Straining against his hold Aurora gritted out, “Fuck you, Cupid or Claude or whatever the hell your name is. I have eighty-seven more of those to give you. You mother fu—”

The man sighed and said softly. “I’m not Cupid.”

She stilled and gasped realizing she was plastered against his body. His next word distracted her.

“Although I can relate, why do you want to kick Cupid’s ass?” His tone was matter of fact.

“You’re hurting me. Let me go first.” Aurora demanded although he wasn’t.

He scoffed. “Liar.”

“Let me go.”

“Only if you promise not to hit me again.”

“Fine I won’t hit you again. I only connected twice.” Although it galled her to say it out loud.

The man laughed and his cock rubbed against her ass. Trying to keep still Aurora closed her eyes. She was getting hot over a man she barely knew and she didn’t even know if she liked him. He let her go. Spinning to face him she took a step forward and looked up into his amused chocolate gaze.

“Who the hell are you?”

His smile widened. “Nigel Ha’gan at your service Miss Aurora.”

He sounded very formal but his devilish smile belayed that.

“You’re very formal for someone who is naked?” Then it hit her what he said. “How do you know my name?”

A look of pain flashed through his eyes so fast she almost thought she imagined it.

“I figured since you were ignoring it I’d be a gentleman and do the same.”

“What?”

He shrugged a graceful movement of his shoulders. “Our nakedness.”

Aurora sighed. “You’re quite a handful aren’t you?” Realizing what she said her eyes automatically dropped and looked at his impressive member. Blushing she turned away from him and mumbled. “Crap, you know what I mean.”

“Now no need to be shy queinlos,” Nigel said the laughter plain in his voice.

“What does queinlos mean?” Aurora asked although she suspected it was something derogatory.

“Little warrior,” he purred.

His answer pleased her. The feel of soft cloth brushed her skin. Glancing down she saw light filtering around her body and a robe in a rich green, the same color as her eyes, covered her. He was now clothed in a similar one in dark brown.

“Thanks.” She winced when she saw his broken nose.

She knew it had to be hurting him. Grabbing his hand she pulled him to the table. He came willingly. She pushed him in the chair. Reaching to check his nose she gasped as his hand stopped her. Again she hadn’t seen him move.

“Don’t be a baby. I just want to check it out. I’m a doctor.” She touched it and he winced.
“Ah man, I’m sorry. She looked for some paper towel and got a bowl of water.

“Sorry you hit me or sorry I’m not Claude?” he asked.

Smiling she replied, “Both,” as she gently cleaned his nose.

A Demon for All

“In paranormals you can work an insurmountable obstacle into a fantastic story. A story that will leave you not only rooting for the end that is satisfying but leaves you breathless and brings down the barriers of your mind letting your imagination take flight.” - Taige Crenshaw

Above is what I’ve said many times before and will always believe. Now lets explore another wondrous paranormal being.

Demons used to be considered the villain to be beaten but now they are the hero or heroine. They can range dark, scary and frightening to fun loving and sweet. No matter which it is always entertaining to see what twists and turns will come about.

I’ve read so many books on demons and enjoy the world that is built to sustain what they are and stand for. For example the world that Jackie Kessler created in her Hell on Earth series. I enjoyed learning the intricacies is of the society there as well as laughing at the antics of the beings in Hell. Larissa Ione’s The Demonica Series world is captivating and keeps you enthralled. There are so many various demons out there and universe they inhabit. It is interesting how each author makes their own spin on things.

Demons are no longer that frightening being that has to be destroyed. They are the ones we root for to get the girl or guy. Or the one we want to win that battle. The lines are blurred. No longer are they considered evil but somewhere in between or even good. Heck they even live next door and are even soccer moms. LOL.

No matter what type of demon you like to read the one thing I can say in my opinion. They will entertain, thrill and even in some case scare you in the best possible ways.

Snippet Saturday – Homage

blog-header-option2

Today’s snippet theme is homage to another artist. I’m a big fan of Lauren Dane books. I’ve read almost everything she has written. Still reading some books. She writes real and interesting characters,. Below I have a look at one of her books. Enjoy.

relentless200x300An snippet from Relentless by Lauren Dane

This is where Abigail Haws lived? Roman took in the building. Not bad at all. He’d expected shabby once he’d left the Family living blocks near the Municipal Complex. While still within the first circle, he rarely got out this far. Roman realized he’d lived a sheltered life. He did get out from time to time, but it was usually on some sort of mission to view how the unranked lived, a visit to a school, something of that sort.

Listening closely, he knocked once he heard movement on the other side of the door. It was very late but he hadn’t wanted to let the day end without trying to see the woman. Once he’d read the file and spoken to Saul Kerrigan he’d been livid. He wanted to hear Abigail Haws’s side of the story.

“Who is it?” A pause as he heard the view port on the door slide open. “Oh, you. What in the seven hells are you doing here?” she snarled as her door flew open. A tiny sprite of a woman stood before him, long dark hair hanging loose to her waist, big brown eyes flashing behind a pair of spectacles. He hadn’t seen spectacles very often. Most of the time surgical treatment repaired vision problems.

“I’m…”

She had the audacity to grab his arm and yank him into the apartment, slamming the door behind them both. “I know who you are. Why are you in my house?”

He looked around, again, surprised. The place was lovely. Plants exploded from pots hanging, draping, perched and placed in the window sills. The furniture was nice, not expensive like his, but it fit the space.

He sniffed, trying to keep it to himself but a redolent, heady scent hung in the air. It came from her kitchen where a pot sat on a cook top. She cooked too? Pictures sat in frames on shelves and on tables. Abigail Haws led a full life and suddenly, he got a whole different perspective on her.

“Hello?” She snapped her fingers in front of his face, jolting him from his inner thoughts. She may have had a lovely apartment but her manners left something to be desired.

“Please don’t do that.” He stepped back. “I’m here because you left before I could meet with you today. Marcus, my assistant, assured me you’d be home and that your assistant had told you to expect me. Apparently that did not happen.”

“I was before an Administrator all afternoon. After you missed our appointment. I met with several of my clients at the lock-up, did research at the library and came home. I haven’t even eaten yet.”

“You left out speaking with a vid crew.”

She had the audacity to laugh and he had the audacity to be charmed in a startled sort of way.

“Oh that’s right. Yes. And spoke with a vid crew about yet another instance of a Family using the system to harm the unranked. I nearly forgot that part, thank you for reminding me.”

She turned, pushing that dark river of gleaming hair over her shoulder and headed to the kitchen. The scent of her soap wafting in her wake met his nose. Light, feminine, not much like her personality at all.

“Why are you using spectacles?”

“Why aren’t you using manners?” she countered, ladling the fabulously aromatic concoction into two bowls. “Would you like some stew? It’s nothing fancy but it’s good.”

He wanted to say no but he had to speak with her and he hadn’t eaten in hours. “Thank you.”

“Hmpf.” She placed the bowls on the table in the corner of her kitchen and turned again, returning with a pitcher of juice and some bread. “Sit.”

He did, surprised by how quick he’d simply obeyed her order.

A Visit from Beyond - Ghostly Liaisons

“In paranormals you can work an insurmountable obstacle into a fantastic story. A story that will leave you not only rooting for the end that is satisfying but leaves you breathless and brings down the barriers of your mind letting your imagination take flight.” - Taige Crenshaw

Above is what I’ve said many times before and will always believe. Now lets explore another wondrous paranormal being.

I’m revisiting ghosts today. Since my last post I have thought about it quite a bit. Even reread some books with ghosts.

Imagine being in love but not being able to touch the person you love. Not because they don’t know you care or anything like that. It is literally because they have no corporeal form for you to touch or feel. This is taking obstacles to love to a whole new level.

Ghosts are usually thought of to spook you but now they have evolved to entice, titillate and make fantasies about. A ghost as the main character in a story looking to save the world, find love and all that while just being ethereal is a lot. But it is done with such aplomb that it makes your heart race and you cheer hoping for that one touch. That one moment when it becomes all worth it.

One example of a ghostly liaison is in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Sin of the Night the hero Alexion is sexy and mysterious and a sort of a ghost who is in a temporary corporal form. The heroine Danger doesn’t know what he is which isn’t the only obstacle they face. They face everything and get that happily ever after.

There are many other authors who are exploring this sort of a spin on the obstacles you face when finding love. A ghostly character in love with someone who they cannot touch at least not in a real sense. How do you build a relationship or a lasting love from that?

This is where using your imagination and taking the story to the next level comes in. In paranormals you can work an insurmountable obstacle into a fantastic story. A story that will leave the reader breathless and rooting for the end that is satisfying and leaves you breathless.

A ghost is just another form of being with all the angst, love and stuff we all have. A ghostly liaison is not only possible but makes you think and bring down the barriers of your imagination.
