Between the Covers - Indigo Rain

Today's Between the Covers is a few lines from an upcoming book.

Indigo Rain (Phoenix Intelligence Agency, Book # 1) is now available for Pre-Order. Here is a few lines from the book. Enjoy.

“I’m the one holding the knife.”

He smiled, his expression cold. He flowed his hand over hers in a movement too fast for the eyes. Between one heartbeat and the next, he held her dagger before he punched out palm out, hitting her mid-chest. Kalina flew across the table and into the wall, back cracking the drywall. He streaked past her, placing his hand behind her head stopping it from slamming against the surface. Ryne crowded her, moulding his muscular body to hers. She turned her face away from him, her fury bubbling up, but held it back.

“You broke rule number four, Kalina. Never underestimate your opponent,” Ryne purred against the side of her face.

Kalina shuddered in response. He was right. He’d written them, after all. Turning to face him, she locked gazes with his indigo one and saw the flames flashing there.

Writing Tool - Notebooks

Someone asked me the other day about my notebooks and what role they play in my writing process.

I do much of my writing in a notebook. Many times staring at a screen doesn't get my thoughts flowing but when I take my notebook in my hands I get inspired. When I have a particularly difficult scene to write, it works better when I work out in the notebook.

Notebooks are an essential writing tool in my process.

Today’s snippet theme is Author's Choice.  Enjoy a look from one of my books.

An snippet from Indigo Rain

The cold touch of steel between his legs stilled him.

Kalina smiled, a nasty grin. “Move it or lose it. I may have to work with you, but I still don’t have to like it.”

Cautiously, he lifted his hand off her thigh and sat back. Kalina leant forward, keeping her dagger pressed against his still-hard cock. He could have disarmed her, but instead chose to wait and see what she would do.

Kalina stood slowly, her blade steady and sure against him. She leaned down until her lips almost touched his.

“You are a handsome man, Ryne Garon. Then again, I’ve been with handsome men. That won’t get you into my bed. It takes a lot more than a pretty face.” Kalina’s whisper-soft words tickled along his lips.

In the next second, she was across the room and walking to the door. He hadn’t seen her move. He enjoyed the movement of her ass in her skirt. It reminded him of a sensuous rhythm and mesmerised him. It made his body feel…

Hot.

Achy.

Horny as hell.

Ryne stared as she reached the door and glanced back at him.

“Are you coming, or are you going to stay there watching my ass all day?” She opened the door before striding out.

Biting back a laugh, he stood and followed her. He went into the hall and found her leaning against the wall, waiting for him.

Ryne strode closer until there was barely any space between them. “Don’t pull a weapon on me again unless you plan to use it,” he growled.

Kalina met his gaze. “When I pull a weapon, I always mean to use it.”

Kalina glanced down then back up at him. Ryne looked down and saw a ‘K’ carved in his pants. Glancing up, he noticed her lips twitch.

Between the Covers - Candy Cravings

Today's Between the Covers is about an idea. It's a repost from before...hmmm....I am now craving some candy. LOL. I'm prepping the idea to write about the candy shop owner so I've been looking at it.

I’ve been having a strong craving for candy. I’m not a bug candy eater. I can go years without eating any. Also I’m not into chocolate. Shocking. I do eat chocolate ever so often but when I crave it is for something else. I know you chocoholics out there are wondering what candy I am craving if not the all-wonderful chocolate.

Okay I will admit it. I am a caramelolics. Yes caramel is one of my fav candy. That nice sweet caramel is calling me. It is a siren call that I have been resisting but I am longing. Badly. Of course because of how much I am craving I have an idea come to me. A candy idea. An idea of someone who makes sweets for a candy shop and what happens when there craving takes on the sweetest temptation. LOL.

Above is how my craving morphed into a story idea that I will be working on soon. Now I'm off to to get some candy for my craving.

Something New

This year I am working on trying some new things. Getting outside my comfort zone. It is fun, exhilarating and scary all at once but I love the feeling. I love to challenge myself to do and try new things. I already have some ideas of the new things I will try but for others I haven’t decided yet. :) Something new is a good way of getting your heart racing and mind clear.

Another new is the new plans on my 2013 writing calendar, which is already filled with wonderful stories I plan to write this year. I have lots of plans for books I want to write this year and my mind is filled and I can’t wait to get started. But…I will. One of my something new this year is I promised myself I will take January off from writing anything new. This month will be all about relaxing and then the last week or so I will be preparing for my upcoming writing projects. Taking a break is something I’ve been lax in doing lately so 2013 and going forward I have made my writing schedule so I can do that and still keep the writing plans I have. :)

2013 is the year of something new.

Today’s snippet theme is Description. Enjoy a look from one of my books.

An snippet from Indigo Rain

Ryne turned his attention back to Kalina. She was silent but there was an answering flare of lust in her eyes. Leaning closer, he put his hand on her bare thigh.

Her pulse in her throat fluttered in reaction, showing her heart rate increasing. He partially lowered his lids and slid his hand up her leg, stopping at the hem of her skirt. He waited to see what she would do. Kalina smiled, a sensuous grin, then leaned into him.

His cock hardened. Her scent of cinnamon and caramel filled his senses. Kalina leaned close enough to almost kiss him. She lowered her focus, raking his body, and it was almost like a physical touch. When she raised her attention to his eyes again, they were burning with hunger.

“Why don’t we get this over with?” Kalina’s whispered words tickled his lips.

His erection throbbed in anticipation. Smoothing his hand farther up her leg, he touched the edge of her lace-topped panty hose then the garter. Ryne shuddered as with his finger he touched the silk. He heard Kalina’s heart rate increase.

She licked her lips.

He leaned over to kiss her.

“Why not? I’ve never even met you.” The man spoke with a smooth, sweet baritone tickling along her senses.

Kalina gave the man resting on the wall her whole attention. “Because you’re a fucking Firebird.”

“You’re a fucking Amazonian Warrior. I should be the one who doesn’t want to work with you.” He shrugged. “And I don’t have a problem with it.”

goldenseduction_msr2_small2An snippet from Golden Seduction

The man looked at her his expression shifting to curiosity. “Who’s Sonya?”

Confused Laila looked at him. “She sent you as my gift.”

The man shook his head.” I don’t know anyone named Sonya. I came out of the card.”

Dread filled her. Laila felt his hands drop away. A glance over her shoulder at the table showed the empty tarot card and next to it was the crown and scepter. Turning back to the man her eyes dropped and she noted for the first time the necklace with a fish on it around his neck. Looking closer she realized it was of a dolphin and in the place of its eye there was a cordierite. Her knowledge of rare gems helped her recognize what it was. Looking back at the man she saw he watched her patiently unmoving.

“Thane combat mode now.” Laila screamed as she jumped off the man’s lap and ran around the couch away from him.

“Combat mode armed,” a male voice stated.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw Thane take form and go after the man. Knowing she had only seconds to get to her office before the man realized Thane couldn’t touch him Laila ran down the hall. Reaching the door of her office she saw Gertrude and Renaldo racing toward her from the other end of the hall. Rushing into her office she waited from them to enter. They shot past the office. Swearing Laila wondered why they would pick now to not follow the command that she and Sonya had trained them to do in case they ever were attacked.

Glancing frantically around her office for something to fight with Laila cursed again. It wouldn’t matter what she got she didn’t know how to fight anyway. Seeing a stapler and a letter opener on the desk she snatched them up. Grimacing she knew she looked stupid and it wouldn’t protect her but maybe she could catch him off guard and rescue Gertrude and Renaldo. Turning she faced the door and waited for him to come after her. After a few minutes her arms started to ache. Lowering them she crept to the door and peeked around it. The hall was empty and the house strangely silent. A lump formed in her throat. He had to have killed Gertrude and Renaldo. They hated strangers and attacked them. Furious Laila stepped into the hall brandishing her stapler and letter opener. She would kill him for that.

Stomping down the hall she went into the living room and said. “I’m going to kill you mother fuc—”

She trailed off in shock at the sight before her. Renaldo and Gertrude were lying at the man’s feet looking up at him silently. The man’s back was to her as he waved his hand in the air cutting through the holographic image of Thane.

“Amazing,” the man said doing it again.

Thane looked at him a sardonic look on his holographic face. “Stop doing that.”

The man looked startled then stepped back. “You speak. What are you?”

Thane replied in a St Thomian accent, his preferred tone, “Thane. A fully free thinking LB3000.”

The man frowned. “What is that?”

Thane looked at the man exasperation clear on his caramel toned holographic face. “Ask her.”

He waved long tapered fingers toward her. The man turned to look at her as if just realizing she was there.

Looking away form his intense gaze Laila looked at Thane. “Disengage combat mode.”

Thane nodded his head and winked out. Walking over to where the man stood Laila took a seat on the couch and looked at him.

“Who are you?”

The man looked at her and cocked his head. “You’re no longer afraid of me. Why?”

Shrugging Laila gestured. “Them.”

The man looked down at Gertrude and Renaldo then back at her. “The shifters make you trust me.”

“No they are pets. Not shifters.”

The man looked at her then back at Gertrude and Renaldo horror on his face. “Pets? You keep them contained.”

Looking back at her there was fury on his face. “Release them at once.”

Laila, having dealt with men who thought they could control her before, sighed. “No they cannot change from one form to another.”

The man looked back at them again then knelt on the floor beside them. They clamored up to him. Reaching out he stroked first Gertrude’s head then Renaldo’s.

Between the Covers - A Fro Affair

Today's Between the Covers is about an idea. It's a repost from before. I'm reading the scene in a book that the idea I had appears in so I'm posting it again.

Reposting from before.

I was on my way home the other day when I passed this woman who was sporting a slamming Afro hairstyle. The woman’s fro was big, high and poufy. I think it was a wig but it was so good I couldn’t tell. She was also sporting the clothing to go with the fro. She looked fierce. People were turning and looking at her. Me included. People were complimenting her on her look. Like any good diva she said thank you graciously and kept strutting. As I watched the woman stepping looking cool and fierce my mind was racing.

Yep another idea was taking shape. As I walked home I thought of the Fro. The idea took shape for a book with a woman in a fierce fro and clothes to match.

~~~~~
The idea became a scene in a book. The book isn't subbed yet. Now that I am re-reading it I'm remembering how much fun I had writing the scene. :)
Snippet Saturday – Emotion
blog-header-option2
Today’s snippet theme is emotion. Enjoy a look from one of my books.
onyxmoonrising_smallAn snippet from Onyx Moon Rising
Tashana could feel her strength fading. Slashing out, she took out more Deathwalkers. A Deathwalker rushed her. It got pass past her guard and hit her in the chest. Her one remaining sword she held flew out of her hand. Quickly she called her whip then raised her hand. She hit it back and slashed down with her whip. It disintegrated. Flicking her whip, she took out a few more. Taking a step back, she stumbled over Sanjay and fell on her back. Groaning, she rolled to her side and got to her knees. The Deathwalkers watched her and stalked forward. The Onyx Moon became hot against her skin. Sure in their victory, they closed in. Putting her hand on Sanjay's chest, Tashana felt his labored breathing.
Looking at him, she felt sorrow well in her. "I'm sorry, Sanjay."
The Deathwalkers laughed as the man continued to read the scroll. The Deathwalkers reached her, then she saw ice form covering the ones closest to her. A sound whistled in the air and the Deathwalkers shattered. Looking up, Tashana blinked, unsure if she was seeing things. Hundreds of dragons, in every color of the rainbow, came silent on the wind over the treetops. The sight of the massive dragon leading them captured all her attention. It was golden, the tips of its scales and tail were burnt orange. The dragon raised its head and screeched. Then lowered its head and breathed frost. Ice coated the Deathwalkers freezing them in place .
Suddenly, fire rained from the sky. A figure was throwing fire from the dragon's back. As they got closer, Tashana saw it was Zaila. She had a fierce look on her face throwing fire and light at various intervals. Tashana heard a whistling sound and it took her a moment to realize that it was a whip. Turning her head, her breath caught as she watched Jaynat hanging from the bottom of a purple dragon as she used one of her two whips. Jaynat lashed with her other whip shattering the frozen Deathwalkers. Reaching them, the dragons shifted into men and women, cutting through the Deathwalkers. Covering Sanjay with her body, Tashana listened as the sounds of battle waged around her. After a while, all was silent.
Cautiously she glanced up and saw the area was clear. The Deathwalkers were gone. A golden dragon landed with Zaila still on its back. It shifted into a man and he ran toward them, carrying Zaila. Jerking up, Tashana felt something tugging at her.
"Freitious!" a voice screamed.
The Onyx Moon pulled her across the clearing toward the man who held the scroll. Tashana took her dagger and flung it at him. His eyes widened as it hit him in the chest. He crumpled. She continued to be pulled to him. Reaching him, she collapsed on the ground. A fiery rd sensation filled her then the Onyx Moon pulsed. Screaming, she scrambled to her knees and grabbed at her neck. Ripping it off, she stumbled back as it hit the ground. Black light burst from the ground below the necklace and the earth split and a shape poured out. Rolling out of the way Tashana came up on her knees.
A shape shot into the sky and blocked out the sun. The backwash of power knocked everyone in the clearing off their feet. The dragons in the sky plummeted to Earth. When they hit, the earth shook. Tashana took in the vision of death. The Onyx Dragon. It was true black with no color at all. It raised it head and screeched. The Onyx Moon hung from its neck. Trees lit on fire and the earth stood still. It lowered its head and looked at her. She saw herself reflected in its black gaze. In them, she saw her death and read the truth. When the Onyx Moon pendent was stripped of its power, the power had taken corporeal form before it was put to sleep. It had waited for centuries to be awakened to get its opportunity for vengeance. The power had been created to be used to protect and not harm. Yet according to the wearer of the Onyx Moon, the power was enslaved by their desires. It had been corrupted with each destructive use. Now it was tired of the world and wanted all to die.
Opening its large mouth, the Onyx Dragon turned its head and blew fire, cutting her off from everyone around her. It looked at her again and dove. The wind whispered to her and Tashana heard it. Dropping down, she touched the earth. Power raced through the earth then fire licked up her arms circling her. Standing she looked down at the chains of Terra circling each arm. The earth had given them one of its greatest weapons of protection. The chains were bright white light. Pure and unbreakable.
Looking back up at the Onyx Dragon, she smiled and took off in a run. Using the man as a springboard, she flew up and met the Onyx Dragon. Swinging, Tashana latched the chains of Terra around its neck and used them to pull herself up. It screamed, twisting its head to shake her off. She held on. Reaching its back, she swung herself up and stood. Twirling one of the chains around her fist, she punched down. The Onyx Dragon dipped but didn’t go down. She raised her fist again, then hesitated, tilting her head to hear a whisper on the wind.
"Death."
Following through, Tashana punched down hard and felt the skin and bone give. The Onyx Dragon plummeted from the sky. Holding on with the other chain, Tashana rode it. Hitting the ground, she jarred as they skidded across the clearing. It shuddered and took its last breath. Suddenly, it shifted beneath her. Standing, legs widespread, Tashana looked down at the woman below her. Her skin was the color of dark oak and the Onyx Moon rested between her naked breasts. Her white hair was spread around her body partially covering her. The woman’s eyes flew open and she gasped. Tashana did not move, just watched her.
The woman looked at her and said, "Finish it."
Tashana raised her fist and brought it down.
Stopping just above her chest, Tashana said, "No. You're free. You can control the Onyx Moon now if you choose."
The woman looked at her. "I want to die."
"Dying is an easy way out. Redemption builds the soul."
Stepping over her, Tashana ran to Sanjay. Zaila ran up to them.
"Please help him, Zaila."
Zaila hook her head. "I can't. I'm too weak."
Looking at Zaila, Tashana saw her sway. The man who had been holding Zalia when he landed walked up to her and took some of her weight.
"Let me." The same man said.
Looking up, Tashana saw the reserved look on the woman's face. "How can I trust you not to hurt him, Onyx Dragon?"
The woman laughed a bitter sound. "My name is Indigo, and you can't."
Between the Covers - Behind the Hurricane
Today's Between the Covers is about an idea.
The idea for Hurricane (Singleton, Book # 1) came partly from my mom and dad’s relationship. My dad and mom were very much in love. As a child I loved watching how they interacted with each other. Yes there was up and downs but they were there as a constant for us. As a family we survived many family ups and down’s including a Hurricane that devastated a lot of the island where I am from. The strength we had was due to the family - those of blood and whom we see as family even through we had no blood ties. Standing side by side and helping each other is what got us through.
There were many storms we had. When my dad passed away I had just graduated from high school. It sent all of us reeling. I’m the youngest in my family. In my case I had just moved away from home to go to college. I had only moved a week when I got the call he was gone. When I had to return home for the funeral I had already set in my mind not to return to college and told my mom so. She refused to let me give up my dream and told me that my dad was proud and knew what I was doing. After my dad’s passing my Mom was the rock that kept our family going. She made sure all of us were okay. She went on after such a devastating loss. Sadly my Mom passed away a few years ago.
When I sat down to write Hurricane (Singleton, Book # 1) I wanted to portray a form of the love my parents had. As well as the strong family dynamic I grew up with. I did take creative license to change how Julianne and Keenan my main characters of the novel get together to create a long lasting relationship. Throughout the book you will see them build from the base to a loving foundation. Julianne and Keenan will have trials and things to face before they get there. Their journey is a growth for both of them.
Also when I created the concept for the Singleton series I wanted to give readers a view of me. The Locke’s is a family that were born in St. Thomas - the same island I was born in – and they moved to the fictional town I created called Singleton which is set in New York. Even with the move they maintained the closeness of family and added more by their friendships they formed. Friends who have become a part of the large extended family. The Locke family and friends are large, close-knit and portray what family is all about – being there through joy, pain and even death. They are the way my own family is.
I'm extremely proud to bring the Singleton series to my readers.
