tcholheadHappy Holidays to you all!

Between the Covers - Perfect Fit

Today's Between the Covers is an excerpt from my book.

Here is a excerpt from Perfect Fit (Singleton, Book # 2). Enjoy.

perfectfit_exlargeRegina put down her cup and stood. She strolled towards him, moving with an innate rhythm he’d always found so intoxicating. She stepped into him, pressing close. Automatically, he placed his hands on her hips.

“Had a nice sleep, Spencer.”

Although it wasn’t a question, he answered. “Yes.” He cleared his throat. “It was very restful.”

“I bet.” She studied him, then smiled. “After the show you had.”

Spencer flushed with need. “You knew I was there,” he accused.

“Yes.” Regina straightened his tie. “You said no sex, but nothing about seduction.” She patted his chest. “I like that. I’m good at it.” She rocked against him.

Spencer groaned as she moved on his erection. “Behave, Reggie.”

“You forgot ‘mis’. I’m going to behave, all right. Misbehave. I want you back in my life all the way. Not this partial way with all these rules.” Regina moved her hips again and placed her face close to his, whispering almost on his lips, “Holding out for some belief of being comfortable together is a moot point. I’ve been comfortable with you from the time we met. And even if you deny it, so have you.” She placed her palm flat on his chest, over his heart. “I know your heart and soul. And most assuredly, your body. I know what makes you shiver.”

Spencer shivered.

“What makes you groan just so.” She widened her legs and rotated.

Spencer groaned, shaking.

“And that you belong to me.” Regina grabbed his hair holding him still, her green gaze fierce. “Mine, Spence.”

She slid her hand into his hair, held him firmly and kissed him. Spencer opened wide, moaning. Regina pushed her tongue into his mouth, moving along his, stroking. Spencer gripped her hips, cupping her ass and pulling her against him. He returned her kiss with equal hunger, grunting as she rocked against him. Spencer shuddered, about ready to come in his pants. Regina wrenched away, pulling out of his hold and he stepped forward to get her back.

“Whoa, there.” She put her hand on his chest. “I made my first move. Now it’s your turn to decide what you truly want.” She stepped back, grabbed her purse and briefcase off the stool from by the kitchen island then headed past him. She touched his ass as she did, then said by his ear, “I’m looking forward to our pillow buying excursion.”

Regina chuckled as she left the room. In moments, he heard the front door close. Spencer went to the island and sat, putting his hand on the counter, then under his chin. He slumped forward.

“Damn. I really am screwed.” Spencer rubbed his hands over his eyes then lowered it as he thought of her parting words. The pillow shopping was going to be hell. Not the buying, but what came with it after.

“So screwed.” Spencer rose and went to the door to go to work.

Ink Motions with SE Babin

tcinkmotions-sm3-300x172

Sheryl bio pic

Bio - S.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel. Beginning with random, terrible poetry and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool.

Ink Motions - Interview

How do you get an idea for your novel? Everything for me start out with a “what if” question. Once I have that question, the rest just starts to roll.

What is your writing style?  Do you just sit down and write or do you create? I am usually a pantser, meaning I just sit down and write whatever comes to mind. I did plot one novel out from start to finish a few months ago, though. I have to admit not plotting is much more fun. It’s like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to find!

Who is the "Writing Muse" in your life? I.E. who gets your juices flowing? This is a tough question. It’s not a “who,” it’s more of a what. The what is life. Over hearing a conversation in the grocery store or seeing people interact can often trigger book ideas.

How many novels have you written including all work in progresses you are currently working on? I’ve written four novels to date and I have three in progress right now.

Who is your "writing idol"? I.E. Who do you like and what is it about there writing that captures your soul? So, so many! I love Jim Butcher, Ilona Andrews, John Green, Liane Moriarty, Jill Mansell and Richelle Mead. Too many to name!

What is your favorite plot line type? I love redemption stories, and I also love rags to riches, or cowardice to heroics.

Is there any advice you can offer to anyone who would like to write? Yes, for me this is simple. Sit down, write, do it again, edit, write, repeat.

What is a good villain? I love a good villain! My favorite villains are those who are relatable. We know why he’s doing what he’s doing and we understand it. His actions might not be right, but darn if we can’t help but empathize with him.

TheHuntForSnow

Excerpt from The Hunt for Snow - I nodded, squared my shoulders and started walking to the devil’s house. As I stood on the porch, the smells of home cooked food and wood smoke made my stomach growl. I really couldn’t get over how much the house had surprised me. Either Rumpel was a master at illusion, or this was how he lived all the time. Maybe it was a little bit of both. I knocked on the door, surprised when it opened underneath my hand.

The inside was just as homey as the outside. Comfortably worn chairs circled the small living area. A small fire crackled cheerily in the hearth. Kitschy knickknacks littered the tables and the shelves, depictions of small town life. Very Thomas Kinkade. And very unlike the man I expected Rumpel to be. I looked into the kitchen area and saw a tall man stirring a pot. His clothes fell on his lanky frame, clean but worn.

He set the spoon down and turned to face us.

I couldn’t help it. I blinked, opened my mouth to speak, shut it, and then blinked again. Rumpelstiltskin was drop-dead gorgeous. I looked over to Belle and Cyndi and both of them had their mouths wide open.

A smirk appeared on his face. “Why is it everyone thinks I’m hideous?”

“Ummm,” I said eloquently.

He shook his head, said something under his breath, and gestured for us to sit around the large circular table in his dining room. It was made out of a dark wood, the surface scarred from years of overuse. We meekly sat down, amongst the disgusted grumblings of Robin Hood. “I swear,” he muttered under his breath, “you woman are all the same. Struck dumb at the sight of a pretty face.”

“Shut up,” I muttered in annoyance. Rumpel was not just another pretty face. He was reminiscent of an ancient warrior, an angular face highlighted with strong cheekbones, and deeply tanned. A thin white scar ran down from the side of his right eyebrow to the bottom of his lip, but it did nothing to detract from his beauty. Instead, it just enhanced it. His eyes shimmered with ancient magic, a maelstrom of pictures and images floating through them. One moment gray, the next moment a haunting tawny gold, they were the most fascinating thing about him. Jet-black hair hung around his face and settled at the tops of his shoulders.

He reached up to one of his cabinets, exposing powerful tanned arms, scarred from his upper biceps down to his lean hands. His face and body told a story of grudges and power plays and ancient feuds. He was both terrifying and gloriously beautiful.

“Stew?”

I glanced around at my friends, still struck dumb, then at Robin who was sitting at the table with his arms crossed looking pissed off at the world. I shrugged. “Yes, please. Thank you for your hospitality.”

“Do not thank me yet,” he said, his voice a deep rasp as if unused for years. “We haven’t begun to deal.” He looked over his shoulder at me, those haunting eyes seemingly piercing through my soul and unveiling my deepest secrets. “You are here to deal, yes?”

I swallowed and nodded.

“Good.” Rumpel busied himself with clattering around the kitchen and serving us up some of the stew he was making in the massive pot on the stove.

I sat there dumbly, staring at his powerful frame when Cyndi leaned over. “Close your mouth. You’ll attract flies.”

I closed it and glared at her. “You’re just as guilty,” I accused.

She smiled. “Hard to act normal around a vision like that.” Her gaze roamed over his body in a frank, appraising glance I’d never quite seen her use before.

“Stop staring at me, orphan, or I will tear your eyes right out of your head.”

Oh snap.

Cyndi’s eyes widened and a brilliant, beatific grin spread across her face. I stared at her in horror. “Freak,” I muttered.

“He likes me,” she whispered.

Blurb - Every ten years a convention is held in a neutral location where people from all the realms come together and reunite. This is no ordinary conference, though, because everyone who shows up holds a place of honor in the legends of old. But there’s one person who doesn’t care that Earth is neutral territory. The Evil Queen, Naomi, is out to settle a score, and she’s brought along one of her most talented henchman to teach the one who got away a harsh lesson.

Snow’s past is shrouded in mystery. Mild cryptozoologist by day, private investigator by night, Snow is dead set on one thing — staying far away from the Huntsman who haunts her dreams. When she shows up to the conference with her two best friends in tow, things start going awry right away. Mere minutes after arriving, they find themselves thrust back into the world they’ve tried so hard to avoid. Now, along with the help of her friends, Snow is struggling to stay one step ahead of the queen who wants to destroy her — and the Huntsman who wants to possess her at all costs.

The hunt for Snow is on. But who will find her first?

Weekend Fun...

Spent weekend catching up with my nephew - he's here from college with me for the holidays. He's sick and I asked him if he wanted to rest up but he said nope. He refused to let not feeling well slow him down. We had such fun. Went to movies and saw The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Night at the Museum and Annie. We loved them all. Then we went Christmas shopping! I'm completed with my shopping I was helping my nephew pick something for his mom. :) When he asked me I had to smile. He is so thoughtful. He knew where he wanted to go but not what to get. So we got her something. Last stop was the grocery store to get things we needed for Christmas. :)

It was and awesome weekend of laughter, fun and memories. As many of you know I'm big on moments/memories. This weekend is one I'll remember. My nephew's first Holiday season with me in NY. I can tell we'll be having loads of moments/memories. Looking forward to it.

I'm making sure to give him stuff to help him get rid of whatever he has. Hoping we can get him better before Christmas. It looks doable since he doesn't sound as bad and says he is feeling better.

Between the Covers - Devi

Today's Between the Covers is an excerpt from my book.

Here is a few lines from Devi (Kemet Uncovered, Book # 2). Enjoy.

The following afternoon, Devi lay in her hammock, enjoying the idyllic day. Her doorbell chimed and she sighed, reluctant to get up.

“It’s open,” she called out.

The familiar masculine scent that had surrounded Rhodes told her who it was before he’d even made it through the house. Turning her head, she watched him step out onto the patio.

“Kind of dangerous, don’t you think, just inviting people in without knowing who it is?” he asked, giving her a disapproving look before putting a bouquet of flowers on the table.

She almost laughed at that, but smothered it. He was concerned about her. How cute.

Today, Rhodes wore khaki slacks and a dark blue polo-necked shirt. Licking her lips, she swung her legs over and got up from the comfort of her hammock. He glanced at her and swallowed. Hard.

She knew it was her outfit. Cream-coloured gauze woven with gold threads made up her halter-top dress with its deep V-neck. Although the material reached the floor, slits in the skirt ran up to the tops of her thighs. With each step she took, one leg flashed through. And she knew it looked good on her—hell, it had been made just for her.

“Cat got your tongue, Rhodes?”

His forehead had a sheen of sweat on it.

“No. That’s… It’s… Damn.”

“I take it that’s a good thing,” she said with an assured smile.

“Oh, yeah,” he rumbled. He flexed his fingers like he wanted to grab her.

“Thank you.”

He had to tear his gaze away from her nearly exposed chest. “What for?”

“The flowers. They’re beautiful.”

He acted as if he’d forgotten he’d even brought them. “You’re welcome,” he muttered, his gaze on her.

“Something I can do for you, Rhodes?”

“I came to ask you to dinner.” His voice still not as smooth as it had been.

“You didn’t call.”

“I wanted to see you.” His eyes burnt feverishly. “Luckily, I’m a resourceful man—you didn’t give me much to go on.”

“You are that. I knew you’d find me if you wished to see me.”

Warmth surrounded her at his admission. “I’ll go get changed.” She moved past him and headed towards the sliding door, then paused and glanced back over her left shoulder. “A little help?”

He approached and stood behind her. His size made her feel dainty and protected. Without a word, she moved her hair out of the way. Her skin tingled from the light brush of his fingertips as he undid the bow holding up her dress.

“There you go,” he whispered in her ear, his breath teasing her skin.

“Be right back.”

She let go of her hair and it swung back into place, covering her to the small of her back. He gasped as she left him there, in between indoors and out. Alone except for her dress, which had pooled at his feet.

Hunky Holidays Blog Hop...

NGWN+Promo+Holiday+Hunk+HopWelcome to the Nice Girls Writing Naughty Holiday Hunk Hop!

From December 12th to 14th the  NGWN  is having a blog hop about what our hunky hero’s do during the holidays.

Today I’m taking you inside what my hero from Unexpected Encounter (Singleton, Book #4) does for the holidays. Driscoll Jacobs is a has an interesting ways of saying things. Here is a Snippet I wrote of how he spends his holiday. Enjoy!

Mine
A Singleton Series Snippet
By Taige Crenshaw

Driscoll snuck inside the house closing the door cautiously so as to not alert anyone of his return. He turned then stifled a curse as he almost toppled over Reggie, his Siberian husky puppy and his kitten Vere— short for Guinevere. The two animals looked up at him and surprisingly they didn’t make any noise. It confused Driscoll for a moment but he took the opportunity to continue his plan. He put his finger to his lips and walked around them then moved stealthily across the foyer to the living room. The room was awash from the light on the humongous Christmas tree. Driscoll smirked as he went to the tree and pulled out the box from the bag he held. He left the bag fall to the floor as he went to place the gift under the tree.

“I thought we said we wouldn’t buy any more gifts for each other.” A woman’s melodious voice came from his left.

Driscoll jumped and looked to where the person had spoken and immediately he went hard as he viewed his wife. Just the idea of it made him feel all giddy. He was a married man to this woman. She was his. She was lounging on the couch with hat familiar twinkle in her hazel eyes that made him want to ravish her. The kinky curls of her reddish brown hair framed her rich honey-skinned face.

“Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Driscoll turned and went to her still holding the box.

“Now that’d be a shame since I have plans for you later.” Lila lifted and eyebrow and smiled then looked at the box he was carrying. “Dris—“

“Yes I love you too.” Driscoll knelt by the couch she was laying on.

“Don’t try to dis—”

“Make you horny. Now why wouldn’t I do that. It’s my job as your husband.” He stressed the word and smiled.

“You love calling yourself that.” Lila ran her fingers down the side of his cheek. “And damn if I don’t love hearing you say it. Makes me want to tackle you and have my way with you.”

“A tackle is a way of expressing love. Give into the feeling often and with gusto.” Driscoll grinned. “Yeah no matter how many times I’ve said that I just love the sound of it. I definitely need to put that on a t-shirt and have you wear it so I can let everyone know what it means.” He wiggled his eyebrows and laughed.

“You and your t-shirts.” Lila laughed then bit her lip before she shifted and took a box from behind her back. “Here, open this now.”

“Now what was that about buying any more gifts for each other.” Driscoll took the box then handed over the one he held. “You take this and open it now.”

Lila took it and scooted up to sit with her back pressed against the arm of the couch. Driscoll sat in the space she made moving her legs and putting them in his lap. He focused on the box and opened it. He grinned at the gold color of the fabric in the box. It was his favorite color. He took out the t-shirt and read what it said.

A tackle is a way of expressing love. Give into the feeling often and with gusto.

The image on it depicted what the shift said perfectly. Driscoll laughed and glanced at Lila. “You got me a t-shirt.”

“And you got me a nightgown.” Lila held it up to her chest as she recited what it said. “Sometimes fate gives you a kick in the teeth and you need to just pay attention.” Lila smiled softly. “Thanks.”

It was what she’d said to him during the reception for their wedding less about a month earlier. “You’re welcome.” Driscoll leaned closer. “I have my t-shirt collection which is my memories of people. So I figured I’d get you started on your own memory collection of us but make it nightshirts. Something between you and me.”

“I like the sound of that.” Lila leaned in to meet him.

They kissed gently and Driscoll pulled back slightly. “Our first Christmas together. First of many.”

“Damn skippy buddy. This is forever…and if you ever try to leave me I’m gonna hunt you down and then tie you up and make you watch as I burn all your t-shirts.”

“Woman you don’t mess with a man and his t-shirts” Driscoll kissed her on the nose.

“If it is justified I will.” Lila stared into his eyes. “So since this is our first Christmas I’ll let you get away with your overbuying of gifts for me.”

“My overbuying!” Driscoll looked at the pile of presents under and each side of the tree then back at Lila. “My gifts are on the left side of the tree. I wonder who has the right?” He teased.

“This isn’t about me.” Lila glared playfully.

“It sure as hell is.” Driscoll kissed her gently.

“You’re spoiling me.” Lila said.

“Ditto. Again I wonder who is the mysterious person who bought all the gifts on the right side of the tree?” He chuckled the studied her before speaking again. “That’s what holiday’s are for. Spoiling those you love but not with the material things. With what is important—spending time with them and creating memories each year to remember for many years to come.”

“Dris.” Her voice got husky and her breath hitched.

Driscoll shifted and she spread her legs so he could fit between them then he leaned against her. “And that’s what we’re going to do this and every holiday.”

“Yes.”

“Mine.” He growled.

He kissed her deeply and counted his holiday blessings. This woman was his and he would show her each and every day how much he loved her. They would create memories to recall and share with their future kids.

Between the Covers - Silk & Shadows

Today's Between the Covers is an excerpt from my book.

Here is a few lines from Silk & Shadows (Club Immortality, Book # 3). Enjoy.

silkandshadows_800_smallVeronica knew there must be some reasonable explanation for them floating above the ground, but she couldn’t seem to care. The first sound of his voice curled around her in a warm embrace. Somehow, his voice came across deeper than him speaking in her thoughts. It resonated through her, making her nipples pebble and her pussy spasm.

Do you want this, Veronica Gunn?” His voice brushed her mind.

She knew then that she’d been wrong. His voice sounded more sensual and intimate in her mind, like a caress across her bare skin. She bit her lip to stifle a whimper. Lost in his gaze, she felt every inch of him against her–his fingers laced with hers, and the sound of silk billowing in the background. She knew what she wanted, and no matter how improbable it sounded that he was an elf, she didn’t care. Need overrode everything else, and Veronica wanted, just for this night, to let go as he’d said.

Yes.”

The sound of silk rippling became louder and more frantic. Zayne said nothing, but the pleasure gleaming in his eyes said it all. Suddenly, she felt the air rush past her, and the feel of silk brushed her skin. Shifting, she purred at the softness pressed against her back. Zayne pressed her hands back against the wall. Silk slid along her wrists. Glancing up, she saw two pieces detach from the billowing silken wall. Softly, they wrapped around her wrists and flowed down her arms. Tugging she realized they held her softly, but firmly. Strangely, she didn’t feel afraid, just extremely sexy. A hard body pressed against hers. Veronica glanced into heated icy green eyes.

Zayne leaned closer to her and covered her lips with his. Veronica stilled, expecting hunger and need. Instead, he made her weak with a tender, sensual kiss that sent her senses into overdrive. His tongue swept along her lips softly, looking for entrance. With a wanton moan she closed her eyes and opened her lips. The stroke of his tongue into her mouth was commanding. The sweet, decadent taste of him rolled over her. His scent filled her, musky and all man.

His hands ran up her arms covered by silk as he caged her between the wall and his hard body. He rubbed against her, the hard ridge of his shaft abrading her skirt. Trying to open her legs wider, she groaned, frustrated, as her skirt stopped her. Her pussy flooded with wetness. With a moan, she pulled with her hands, trying to hold him. The silk held her steady. Suckling his tongue, she growled and nipped him. His groan of approval vibrated through her. He laved his tongue along hers, setting off a pulse of sensation that went all over her body, from head to foot. Moaning harshly, she shifted against him, wanting more. She needed skin against skin. With a murmur, he pulled back. Confused at why he was stopping, she opened her eyes. The hunger in his gaze made her breath catch.

Between the Covers – Wilde Rapture

Today's Between the Covers is an excerpt from my book.

Here is a few lines from Wilde Rapture (Wilde, Book # 2). Enjoy.

“How did you find me? What are you doing here?” she snapped.

“I Googled you and found out what precinct you worked out of. Imagine my surprise that you were only a few blocks away from Wilde Hotel. As for why I’m here… I’m an old-fashioned man who likes to say goodbye to my bed partners.” Darius’ tone was mild.

“It was just sex. Just last night. I thought you understood that. No morning after and all that needed.” She ran her fingers through the back of her hair.

Darius reached up and took her hand. He held it in his. With his other, he raised her face and looked her in the eyes.

“I did understand, and I agreed to it for the night. But, in case you didn’t realise, it’s morning. So the night is past. And now I want you to stop running and think about this.”

He kissed her. All thoughts fled from her head. His kiss was soft and more devastating than if he had ravished her. That she could have handled and dismissed. The tenderness unravelled her. Holding her against his solid frame, he seduced her with a kiss. Made her forget all else but being in his arms. Nia sighed, moulding her body to his. Darius made a pleased sound and continued his sensual assault.

Nia gripped his shoulders, moaning. His fingers smoothed under her breasts, making them ache for him to taste them. They hadn’t got to that last night. She wanted him to bite them and suck them until they were sore and well used. Darius pulled back, hands laced loosely around her waist. His blue eyes were possessive and tender. Her pussy flooded even more at the look.

“We don’t even know anything about each other,” she whispered.

“Then get to know me. Be with me, Nia. The choice is yours. Next time you come by, plan on spending the night again. This time, bring a bag so you don’t have to rush away to get ready for work,” he said.

“That isn’t the reason I left,” she admitted.

“I know.” A small smiled curled his lips.

“You make me lose sense. I don’t like it,” she snarled.

“Ditto,” he countered.

Nia paused, biting the inside of her cheek. Darius raised one hand and gently rubbed it against her cheek, stopping her. She turned her head and kissed his palm. He went still. Nia glanced at him. Darius’ eyes were brimming with emotion. She lowered her gaze, not sure what was happening between them.

“When you’re ready, come to me,” he whispered.

Darius released her. Nia raised her head and frowned at his retreating figure.

“Why do I always have to come to you?” she yelled.

He turned to face her, walking backwards. “Because this time it’s your turn.”

Nia scowled. He was right, damn him. If she thought about it, in the alcove he had come to her. Then she had gone to him last night. Now, today, he had come to her. The next move would be hers.

Ta-Mara LeBreaux finds escape reading a love story of a couple that get together despite all odds. Yet she never expected to be caught in her own tale—the outcome of which will be up to the fickleness of destiny. A man appears in her life, and all signs point to the fact that he is the same Levi from her book. A book she has read countless times. She must be crazy… However when the impossible becomes reality, Ta-Mara is faced with Levi who has come from between the pages to her world. He’s all her dreams come true. This man is all too real and sexy as hell. But is she living on borrowed time with Levi who can’t possibly be hers?

Levi Jefferson Davis Madison doesn’t know what brought him to this time or this particular woman. He is sure of one thing. Ta-Mara is the light that fills his soul. He won’t let anything or anyone stand between them. Yes this present time is so much different than he is used too but he won’t let that stop him. By opening first her home then her heart to a stranger, she shows him the depths of her character. Loving her is easy but being able to keep her by his side is his greatest challenge. Or is it…? There are some things that go beyond time and space. When love meets time, nothing can get in the ways of unbreakable bonds…

Interview

How do you get an idea for your novel?

I have a dozen ideas or more on the go at all times. Ideas can come from anywhere, but lately I've been getting a lot of them from music. Sometimes a certain song will start a scene in my mind and it'll just progress from there. It's not the words, it's more of the mood. I also draw a lot from real historical events, strange history, and funny details I find that stick in my mind. Tyburn came from a nightmare I had.

What is your writing style?

My writing style is a bit all over the place. The ideas come at weird times and I have little notebooks hidden everywhere. Some of them are just filled with Post-Its from when I have an idea (or ten) and can't find a notebook. I don't have a set time for brainstorming -- the ideas usually come during the most awkward times and there's no point in trying to schedule them. I get so many ideas when I'm in the shower that my husband actually bought me a pack of bathtub crayons just in case! As for the scenes themselves, I write in the afternoons, but I have to be in the right place mentally (or wrong place, depending on how you look at it...) before I start. When a scene's going to be good, I feel like I'm already in it. I'll stare at the kettle for ten minutes before I remember I was going to make tea. I completely lose track of time when I’m writing and forget to do really normal things like to eat or turn on the light, and I try not to stop before a scene is done.

Who is the "Writing Muse" in your life?

I don't think there's just one. I am very lucky to have a lot of wonderful friends, and sometimes pieces of them will come through. The character of Mark developed out of a speech pattern I overheard. Certain people have been hugely influential and they will pop up in some elements and little tributes. My grandmother, in particular, appreciates the gruesome, and every time a heroine says something wildly inappropriate, that's for her. More than anyone, I have my husband to thank/blame for so much of it, and not just the heroes. He's extremely supportive and is so great to bounce ideas off of. Again, music is probably the single most helpful thing for me at the moment, and I also use Pinterest to put together little idea boards for future stories and characters.

How many novels have you written including all work in progresses you are currently working on?

Tyburn is the first one to be published, and the next three books in the Southwark Saga are all in varying stages of completion. I have twelve books and two series in the planning stages (mostly scribbled on those Post-Its…).

Who is your "writing idol"?

Do I have to pick just one? I love Judith Merkle Riley's historicals for the care she put into the detail, the slightly off-kilter characters, and the subtle humor that manages to make me laugh out loud every time. I love Leopold von Sacher-Masoch for his passion, Nabokov for his empathy, and Zola and Poe for their atmosphere. As for contemporaries, Chuck Palahniuk for his pace and voice, and George R.R. Martin for his characterization.

What is your favorite plot line type?

I like a plot with lots of threads, complex characters, and love stories I believe. It's not enough for me that a hero is hot -- I really want to get under his skin, to know what he's living for. I want know what books he reads. I like plots with dark themes and an element of suspense, and I like them to be long with detail you can bathe in. If I'm reading for the sake of escapism, I really want to escape!

Is there any advice you can offer to anyone who would like to write?

Just do it. Don't be put off by how much time it takes, and don't fight it. The time will pass anyway, and you'll still be obsessed. Write what you can when you can. It doesn't have to be perfect right away, and you don't have to devote 100% of your life to it, but it's better to have a scribbled a note or two than nothing at all. Also, write for yourself -- don't think about anybody else at this stage, just write the book that you want to read. Someone else out there will want to read it, too.

What is a good villain?

A good villain isn't a villain at all. Sure, they can do horrible things, but you have to understand why they're doing them and what made them that way. Also keep in mind that they don't know they're the villain -- they probably think everything they're doing is perfectly rational and justified. Put yourself in their shoes and try to like them.

Blurb:

Tyburn (The Southwark Saga, Book 1)

Out December 8th from Liquid Silver Books

Sally Green is about to die.

She sees Death in the streets. She can taste it in her gin. She can feel it in the very walls of the ramshackle brothel where she is kept to satisfy the perversions of the wealthy. She had come to London as a runaway in search of her Cavalier father. Instead, she found Wrath, a sadistic nobleman determined to use her to fulfill a sinister ambition. As the last of her friends are murdered one by one, survival hinges on escape.

Nick Virtue is a tutor with a secret. By night he operates as a highwayman, relieving nobles of their riches to further his brother’s criminal enterprise. It’s a difficult balance at the best of times, and any day that doesn’t end in a noose is a good one. Saving Sally means risking his reputation, and may end up costing him his life.

As a brutal attack throws them together, Sally finds she has been given a second chance. She is torn between the tutor and the highwayman, but she knows she can have neither. Love is an unwanted complication while Wrath haunts the streets. Nick holds the key to Wrath’s identity, and Sally will risk everything to bring him to justice.

Unless the gallows take her first.
