Emotion of Writing - Revisited

Had another interesting discussion the other day. The same as before it was more of a debate. It was concerning a book a mutual friend and I had both read. She loved it and I didn’t.

That led to a long debate of us both listing out points and countering why we liked or disliked the book. We got loud and emotionally about our point of view. I love a great debate on the merits of a book. Gets the blood pumping. Of course others around us joined in. And it lead to other discussion of various author’s work we liked, did not like, the reasons why or why not. It was a very reveling conversation.

Again I was given an example of the emotion of writing. As I said many time to various people. No matter if your book is not liked or liked. It has created an emotion. As an author this is what I want to do. Whether it is good or bad. I want you to feel it. The one thing I do not want is apathy. That is like a punch to any writer. Please NO APATHY. Give me any emotion and I will feel that I have done my job.

Now I am not saying if I get a bad review or email that a reader didn’t like my work I won’t get a little upset at first. But when it comes down to it I will be content and happy. I created a reaction.

An Emotion.

I touched the reader in someway. From that little debate I had the other day. I realized that people will remember you if they have enough emotion whether good or bad. I got a few new authors to try just from that conversation alone. Hey just because someone didn’t like a book doesn’t mean what they saw as flaws I or another reader wouldn’t see as treasures.

Come on and share the books you have read and created strong emotion. Don’t be shy it can be good or bad.

Raven Radio - Sum it up for us

raven.jpg

Raven Radio
As mentioned in Romantic Times Magazine.

Authors Michelle Pillow and Mandy Roth talk about everything and nothing with NY Times and USA Today Bestselling authors as well as those wonderfully talented authors soon to be there. *wink* Authors are often lured into our usually digressed topics where we end up discussing chocolate allergies, beauty products and interpretive dance as well as all things paranormal.
www.ravenhappyhour.com or http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ravenradio

How do the two of you manage to juggle your lives, writing and Raven Radio/The Raven?
Michelle: Lots and Lots of Coffee. And it helps to be work-a-holics.
Mandy: I'm with my conscience (Michelle) on this one. We need IV drips of coffee and we are certainly work-a-holics.

How did Raven Radio come to be?

When we started our free story for readers, Raven Happy Hour, those few years ago, we never expected it to be such an incredible journey. But, nearly 50 chapters later, a paranormal blog, website, yahoo group, cult following and Raven minions, we’ve embarked on our latest adventure—a live, weekly Raven Radio show.

Raven Radio was a natural progression for us. It offered another outlet to express ourselves, our creativity and to invite friends of ours to hang out and share in the gabbing. Fortunately for us, the listeners seem to enjoy hearing us talk about everything and nothing and just generally being our normal, comical selves. We started off prerecording the shows and splicing them together. We’re now up to weekly, live shows. All the more fun to screw up without a net while talking to New York Times and USA Today Bestselling authors as well as those wonderfully talented authors soon to be there. *wink* We’ve had some really amazing authors join us on Raven. To name a few… Jacquelyn Frank, Gena Showalter, Jaci Burton, Lauren Dane, Anya Bast and Caridid Pineiro. And Raven Radio was recently mentioned in Romantic Times Magazine.

All the shows are archived afterwards and uploaded onto our subscriber sites to be listened to at leisure. Our most recent guest was author, Gena Showalter, who talked about her new series, Lords of the Underworld. But, as the interview proves, we often lured her into our usually digressed topics and ended up discussing chocolate allergies, beauty products and interpretive dance. Other shows feature Mandy and Michelle switching roles while Mandy’s live at a coffee shop and Michelle’s left in charge of the controls with no clue on how to run them. Callers were welcomed with the pleasant sound effect of a toilet flushing whenever they called in. Needless to say, Michelle’s controls were taken away and the password changed. *laughing*

Listeners are welcome to join the live chat or call in to the show to talk to us and our guests. The show will move to its new evening schedule, May 28th where listeners can catch us every Wednesday at 11PM to 12AM EST. We have a lot of authors on the upcoming line up and you can see a full schedule of guests here: http://ravenhappyhour.com/raven_podcast_schedule_of_guests.htm

What can fans expect to see from you in the future?
Michelle: We have several joint projects and solo projects planned. My newest release, Recipe for Disaster, will be on bookshelves June 10th.

Mandy: Daughter of Darkness III: Bella Mia releases the end of June. *sings finally, its happened to me*

We’ve got a good number of joint projects in the works as well as individual ones. I keep telling Michelle that the sky’s the limit. She keeps telling me to put more clothes on, I’m flashing people again.

TV pleasures: The Closer

I'm waiting for the new season of The Closer to start. I love this show and the way they solve cases. So as I wait I am watching the encores of last season. And the funny thing is as I watch again I see things I missed the first time I watched the episode. LOL. This happens to me when I reread books to. It is like I find something new and fun. Brenda and the crew is always fun. Some of the things they did last year were hilarious. And Brenda's southern charm is quirky.

The Closer new season is coming soon and until then I am having fun with the old episodes to get my Closer fix.

TV pleasures: Army Wives

I've admitted many times I enjoy watching TV. Well one of the shows I was really looking forward to coming is Army Wives. With the way they left us last year with them in the bar I couldn't wait to see who survived. I was rooting for the Roxy, Claudia Joy, Denise and Roland. Well last Sunday was the season 2 premier. I knew from the teasers someone was going to die I got my cold drink and curled up in a chair anxiously waiting for the show. When I saw all the regulars I breathed a sigh of relief no one was killed off. Some were hurt. The owner of the bar more so and almost at death's door. As the show wore on I wondered who was going to die. Well I never saw it coming. Claudia Joy's daughter died. Man I was crying when they finally showed who died.

I'm also an emotional TV watcher. LOL. All I can say the premier was so worth the wait. The sneak peek of what is coming this season will definitely have me turning it. So Army Wives one of my TV pleasures is back.

Summer Coming

Finally some sun is coming. This back and forth weather was getting to me. One day it was cold and the other hot. Now that we are getting more warm days I'm enjoying it. I open the windows more and take a breath of the wonderful air and feel the sun on my skin.

I love summer. I can get out and play. Check out some of the sights in NY. The musuem, the zoo and just walk around the city. Some shopping is in order soon. Gotta get those summer clothes and sandals.

So what are you looking forward to for the summer?
