Snippet Saturday - Author's Choice
Today’s snippet theme is Author's Choice. Enjoy a look from one of my books.
An snippet from Indigo Rain…
Her heart raced, although it wasn’t his eyes’ colour that caught her. No, it was the look of cool calculation in his stare. Struggling to breathe, she heard someone come up behind her. She turned slightly to see Christos come in but still kept the man in her line of sight. Kalina flicked her hand, materialising her baton.
Seeing Christos’ expressionless face, she said coldly, “I’m not working with him.”
“Why not? I’ve never even met you.” The man spoke with a smooth, sweet baritone tickling along her senses.
Kalina gave the man resting on the wall her whole attention. “Because you’re a fucking Firebird.”
“You’re a fucking Amazonian Warrior. I should be the one who doesn’t want to work with you.” He shrugged. “And I don’t have a problem with it.”
Kalina stiffened at the insult. She narrowed her eyes, seeing him quirk his lips in response. She tightened her grip on her baton, she thought of throwing it. She marked the place where she wanted to plant it, Kalina stilled herself, trying to calm down. The man, seeing her intent, smirked and she moved her hand before her brain registered the motion. She flung the baton with all her power. He never changed expression as his hand flashed out and caught it with apparent ease. He looked at the baton, then back at her.
“Kalina!” Christos hissed.
Refusing to look at Christos, she kept her attention on the man.
“Leave us,” he ordered without looking at Christos.
With surprise, she heard Christos back out and leave without a word. She’d never known the director to defer to anyone. She stood silently as he flowed in the boneless motion only shifters possessed. He came to stand right in front of her, and Kalina refused to look away from his calm gaze.
“Do you know who I am?” The purr in his voice had a challenging lilt.
Kalina stiffened, saying nothing. She knew who he was, although she had gone out of her way to not get anywhere near him. The man shot a hand out, gripping her chin before she could move.
He remained focused on her, a slight smile on his face. “Say my name, Kalina.”
She refused to give him the satisfaction.
His indigo eyes lit with flames. “Ah, a stubborn one. I like stubborn women.”
Kalina jerked away and glared at him in contempt. “No one told me Ryne Garon thought with his cock.”
The man chuckled. “So, you do know my name.” He leaned into her. “I don’t think with my cock. If I did, I would have you across the table with my dick buried deep inside of you by now. So deep your nails would make me bloody. ” He shrugged. “Then again, I just might do that.”
Kalina stilled the shudder of lust that filled her.
He won’t fool me. It doesn’t matter that being near him turns me on.

Between the Covers - Onyx Moon Rising
Here is a few lines from Onyx Moon Rising (Nefer Investigation Force, Book # 1). Enjoy.
His gaze went silver then crimson. “You’re wrong, Tashana. There will be no more you or me. There will only be us.”
Her eyes narrowed at his arrogance. Turning her back, she walked toward the door. “Screw you.”
“That will come later.” His voice was a silken promise.
“You wish.” She fired back.

Ink Motions with Jennah Scott
An Interview with Jennah Scott
When or what made you decide to become an author?
Like so many others, I've always wanted to be an author. It just took me sitting at home while my husband was in India on business to decide to make a career out of it. That was almost three years ago and I haven't looked back since.
How do you get an idea for your novel?
Most of my ideas come to me while I'm in the shower! It's the best place for me to think. No interruptions and quiet, for the most part.
What is the inspiration you use?
Pinterest. The pictures I find on there are wonderful for inspiration!
What is your writing style? Do you just sit down and write or do you create character sketches, outlines, or notes?
I start with a very loose outline and notes. As the story gets going I'll do character sketches, adding things here and there as I get new information. Usually my outline only covers the first 1/3-1/2 of the story, so I end up having to stop and outline some more.
Who is the "Writing Muse" in your life? I.E. who gets your juices flowing when you are blocked?
That really depends on the day. I've got a couple of close writer friends that are great muses.
How many novels have you written including all work in progresses you are currently working on?
Full-length novels: 8
Short-stories/novellas: 4
What is you favorite plot line type?.
I love friends to lovers and one-night stands. I'm a huge fan of westerns, too, although I don't think that's really a plot line. :)
What is your current work in progress and how did get the idea for the Work in Progress?
My current work in progress is a m/m one-night stand short story. It's actual the prequel for a novel I've already finished. It's a western, set in Wyoming during Cheyenne Frontier Days.
Is there any advice you can offer to anyone who would like to write?
Take your time. Make sure your work is the best it can be. I've learned from experience it doesn't help to speed through anything.
Where are the bodies buried? IE Is there any old work in progresses you threw aside and decided not to complete and why?
They are buried in a file on my laptop. I threw aside a new adult story that I've rewritten I don't know how many times. The feedback on it was the same across the board: the main character was really hard to connect with. I learned a lot from that story, but it's just not right. One of these days I may go back to it, but probably not. It's one of those live and learn manuscripts.
Blurb:
Not one to settle down, Angelica Rousseau never thought she’d consider planting roots in the small town of Kimmswick, Missouri. When her art speaks to her—and gives her a reason to get up close and personal with body shop owner, Ryker Talcott—sticking around starts to have appeal.
Ryker has to deal with a lot of personalities and has found that custom orders for women almost never end well. Especially when the women are as picky and confident as Angelica. This time it’s different. He's never met a woman like her. She rivals his confidence and has the attitude to back it up.
When the past threatens their future, Angelica and Ryker have to decide what's more important—their own promises to themselves, or the love they both feel for each other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt
Angelica’s best friend, RayAnne, belted the lyrics to the ridiculous country song as they drove down the quiet streets of Kimmswick, Missouri. RayAnne was the most positive person she’d ever met, which was probably why they worked so well together. Whatever the reason for their odd couple style friendship, Angelica was more than happy for it. It was easy for Angel to slip into lonesome artist mode as a sculptor, and Ray was always there to yank her back from the depths.
“Come on, Angel, you know this one.” Angelica laughed and leaned her head out the truck’s window, the smell of small town life and fresh grass lingering in her nostrils.
Angelica laughed as she butchered the lyrics. The decision to ride along while RayAnne worked was definitely the right one. If anything could get her mind out of the slump it was in, there was no doubt RayAnne could do it. “Sorry, lover, guess I didn’t quite learn this one last time.” She reached over and turned the volume dial down on the dash of the old blue Chevy pickup.
“That’s all right.” RayAnne shrugged. “One more stop today and then we’re done. You ready to quit your art job and be a scrapper with me?”
Angelica forced a smile. How close she’d been to giving up on art for so many years and so many reasons. Maybe it would be better to try something different. Just the thought made her heart ache. Give up on art. Aside from her clothes, art was the only output she’d found. Well, that, and the great casual sex she’d had in all her days traveling from town to town. But here in Kimmswick? Not too many options. Which brought her to think about someone else’s problems for a change.
“Oh. Changes. I need details. What’s going on with that boyfriend of yours, Matt? You came home awful early last night.”
“Ugh.” RayAnne’s shoulders slumped. “Don’t worry, Angel, it’s not me, no, no, it’s never me. It’s him. Just like it was with Steve and Darryl and…” Ray brought her sunglasses down to her nose and glanced over at Angelica. “Now why would you go and ruin a good song?”
RayAnne’s dainty arms turned the steering wheel hard onto a gravel road Angelica didn’t recognize. Even though Kimmswick was small, she tended to stick to her studio and house. The grocery store, gas station, and bar were all within five miles of both, so she didn’t have a reason to explore the town much.
“Sorry. Where are we going?” Angelica stuck her head out the window and took in several long warehouse-shaped buildings about a mile up the road.
“This is it, last stop, and we can go home and pop open a beer.”
“Oh, so this is the friend you’ve been telling me about all this time, huh? Favorite stop of the day?”
RayAnne pulled up to a broad expanse of lot where a big black 350 was parked. A man bent over brushing at the rocker panel on the driver’s side was the focus of her attention.
“Oh yeah, hot as sin.” Ray let loose a long whistle as her eyes raked over the man’s ass.
Angel unclicked her seat belt. “So why haven’t you dated this one?”
RayAnne cackled, “No, sir. Hot as sin and likely to take me to hell just as fast. I don’t think I could control myself with him.” RayAnne hopped out of the truck, slamming her door, but the man outside didn’t even flinch. “Aww, isn’t that cute. See, where I come from we like men who don’t mind a little dirt on their machines.”
The way RayAnne bounded out of the truck of her Chevy in cowboy boots and country dresses still amazed Angelica. But it was part of who she was. Her heart was still in Tennessee, buried with her mom.
Now, without hesitation, Angelica put one heavy black boot on the ground before sliding the other out and taking the small hop to the ground. Sure, the shin-high laced up boots were easier to maneuver than her usual stilettos, but she’d rather get out of her Cadillac than hop out of a pickup truck any day of the week.
Angelica leaned against the truck and watched as RayAnne sauntered up to the man and snaked her arms around his neck as he leaned down to wrap her up in a brotherly-type hug. His shirt was solid black, cotton from the way it moved on his torso. She eyed his biceps as they stretched the material. The man released RayAnne, straightening to his full stature as he pointed to a set of bay doors and headed toward the shop.
RayAnne walked back to the truck and jumped in, yelling through the window. “You getting back in?”
“No, I’ll just walk it.” Angelica kicked at the gravel under her feet as the truck roared to life next to her.
It was pretty back by the shop. Trees surrounded the lot, the only ones removed for the drive and the buildings; thin shoots of grass stuck up in the densest areas of the trees. So much nature right around an auto and body shop, odd combination, but one that made Angelica smile, nonetheless. Funny how she could still find new places and people in such a small town. In the three years she’d been in Kimmswick, the place had yet to stop surprising her. Which in itself was surprising considering it was a small town where not a whole lot happened. Angelica shook off a shudder and looked around. No sense reliving past mistakes. The bed of RayAnne’s truck was already disappearing into the bay doors as she approached the building.
Snippet Saturday - Stop Draggin My Heart Around
Today’s snippet theme is Stop Draggin My Heart Around. Enjoy a look from one of my books.
An snippet from Shadow Dance…
Yadira shivered as she took in the landscape whooshing by her. The ground jarred her as she hit it. Looking up she saw the plane above them She let go the rope and watched the plane as it banked then flew out of sight. Glancing over at Dimitri her body clenched in reaction. He was dressed in full winter gear but she remembered the feel of him below and above her. Dimitri looked at her and arched an eyebrow his face cool. Yadira knew it was a front and couldn’t wait to get him naked again to blow it to shreds.
Turning her attention back to the area she sighed as she took in all the snow and cold. It didn’t matter that she could control her body temperature or keep the cold away from her. It was still there.
“Why couldn’t the places we have to search be in the tropics?” Yadira gripped.
Dimitri chuckled. “That would be too easy. You feel anything.”
Having already lowered her shield Yadira shook her head. “No but let’s walk around for a bit.”
Stepping forward she walked deeper into the Rockies. Continuing into the rough icy terrain she waited for the feeling she got when she found what she was looking for. Nothing came. Reaching a clear area she looked back at Dimitri who was some distance behind her to suggest they leave when a man stepped out from the shadows behind him. Opening her mouth to warn him she swallowed it as grey smoke curled around him and he faded. Closing her mouth Yadira’s eyes narrowed. Before she could get angry or go to help him she heard a sound behind her.
Turning quickly she looked, then groaned. “Ah hell, not you again.”
The woman she had fought earlier looked at her. “Rilan is my name Maji.”
Yadira looked at her. “Why would I want to know your name?”
The woman’s expression changed to hate. “So you will know who bested you when you die.”
Yadira laughed. “Since we are being pleasant. Remember the name Yadira.”
“Why.”
Yadira wondered if she was slow or deliberately obtuse. “Don’t worry after I kick your ass you’ll know why.”
Rilan shrieked and ran at her. Waiting until she was close Yadira put her wrists together with her palms out and pushed out hitting her hard in the chest. The woman flew back through the air then somersaulted landing on her feet. Surprised that Rilan had landed on her feet, Yadira reevaluated her knowledge. Smiling she felt coldness fill her. It looked like she had someone to work out her fury on. Rilan came at her.
Yadira met her blocking all her blows one by one. Rilan seemed to get angrier and angrier. Yadira watched her dispassionately, then using Rilan’s own punch as leverage she spun, grabbed her hand, then flung her across the clearing. Rilan hit a snow-covered tree making it break and the snow on it rained down to bury her. Unmoving Yadira watched her. Rilan burst out of the snow flying through the air at her. Yadira caught her in mid-air, then flipping her, she slammed her on the ground pinning her. Holding her effortlessly Yadira watched as she fought to get free.
Rilan stilled then hissed. “Bitch.”
“Now, now no need to get nasty. Who sent you here?”
Rilan looked at her. “Kill me Maji. I will not answer any of your questions.”
Rilan looked past her and her eyes widened in fear. Holding her with her power Yadira glanced at Dimitri as he came up to join her. His look was cool. Fury filled her as she watched him. Looking away before she hurt him Yadira looked back at the woman. Rilan smiled, then Yadira felt that strange sensation she had felt before. Her power began weaken. Rilan laughed, then disappeared. Furious Yadira punched down where she had been. The earth spilt and the area shook with earthquakes. She heard the rumble and looking across the clearing she saw an avalanche coming down the mountain above them. Waving her hand she stilled it, setting everything back to the way it was. She looked at Dimitri. He started to speak.
Holding up her hand she growled, “Say nothing to me.”
Ink Motions with Wendi Zwaduk
An Interview with Wendi Zwaduk
When or what made you decide to become an author?
First, thanks for having me here. I love hanging out with my writerly friends. Grin.
Now about that first question...I had stories in my head and decided to unleash them on others. Once I did start talking about what I’d written and got some feedback, I decided to put pen to paper. Well, no, fingers to keyboard is more like it. I also had read a racing themed story and didn’t like the ending, so I wrote my own.
How do you get an idea for your novel?
Dual Threat was born out of a submission call. Shifters in spring. The spring part became irrelevant, but the shifters were very relevant. I didn’t set out to write a ménage, but when I found out that Ian and Evan were twins, I couldn’t leave anyone out. I let them dictate where the story would go and who they’d end up with. My shifters are probably not traditional, but I like them that way.
What is the inspiration you use?
Dual Threat was inspired by photos of tigers, learning about tigers and a picture of triplets a friend used as bait to convince me to write a story. Hey, it worked!
What is your writing style? Do you just sit down and write or do you create character sketches, outlines, or notes?
Both. I have notes, but usually about the time I sit down to follow those notes the muse takes over. Sometimes I’ll sit down really to push forward without notes and I get stuck. I end up in those moments, sitting down with pen and paper to write and work out the next part. Sometimes going balls to the wall with the story straight from my brain works. Sometimes not. I never force the story or the characters.
Who is the "Writing Muse" in your life? I.E. who gets your juices flowing when you are blocked?
Photos of Chris Evans. Good gravy he gets the muse going. If that doesn’t work, I’ve got a selection of pictures given to me as challenges by my friend Stephanie Burke. She’s good for kick-starting the muse.
Walk me though the way you create a novel from conception to completion.
I think through the story, usually minus the ending. Then I jot notes in my notebook, Pieces and parts to sort out exactly what will happen. Sometimes I just sit down and let the characters talk.
What is the type of voice you use and why?
I tend to use third person voice because I like getting into the character’s head. Sometimes I write in first person if the story is short. I like to show the point of view of both the hero and heroine. I can’t describe my voice when I write other than I have a slightly off-kilter sense of humor and it shows in my work.
How many novels have you written including all work in progresses you are currently working on?
I’ve got over six novels and more than thirty novellas or short stories under my belt. I’m currently working on an erotic novella featuring a vampire.
Who is your "writing idol"? I.E. Who do you like and what is it about there writing that captures your soul?
I don’t know that I have any one person I want to be like. I’ve said I wanted to grow up and write like Anne Rainey or Lora Leigh , but I’m pretty happy in my own skin. But I love both Raines and Leigh’s writing. I’m a sucker for KA Mitchell’s work, too.
What is you favorite plot line type?
Second chance romance. I love when characters can get that one chance to have what they want, even after the rest of their lives have fallen apart. Giving them that second chance is rewarding for me. I love it.
What is your current work in progress and how did get the idea for it?
My current work in progress, tentatively titled You Have Me, was born out of the song My Immortal by Evanescence. Okay, granted, that’s sort of an easy jump. Talking about an immortal who is hurting and vampires. It is. But it was more than the song, or even the sad tune. That was my jumping off point. How Kynan and Lexa deal with each other is all their own invention.
Describe the major conflict between the hero and heroine in your novel?
The major conflict for Kaia, Ethan and Ian is emotional. Can she love two men, especially two men who shift into tigers? There is also a secondary conflict in her ex wanting back into her life.
Is there any advice you can offer to anyone who would like to write?
Read, read, read and develop a thick skin.
Where are the bodies buried? IE Is there any old work in progresses you threw aside and decided not to complete and why?
Oh yeah, I’ve got stories on my hard drive that aren’t really ready for anything and probably won’t see completion. One is racier than even I would normally write and the others are secondary characters who want stories told, but the stories aren’t ready.
What is a good villain?
Someone who comes across as a good person, but really has a nasty undertone that needs to be discovered.
Are there any last comments you may want to include?
Check out my work and let me know what you think. I love hearing from readers. I’m also glad to be here with Taige. This was a lot of fun. Thanks!
EXCERPT:
“A beer and a real good fuck.”
Ian massaged his temples. He’d stared at the computer screen for far too long and his head ached. A cold beer and a hot woman would help ease his tension right about now. Beer to chill him out and the woman to take his mind off the numbers. He didn’t have either the booze or the girl, but the inventory still stared back at him from his computer screen. Lots of numbers, and each needed a place to go on his spreadsheets. He tallied the camera sales. He’d need to order a couple hundred more micro wireless cameras as well as the infrared home monitoring cameras and at least a thousand yards of cable. The numbers began to blur again, and he closed his eyes. Running the store made paying the bills a breeze, but sometimes he hated looking at surveillance equipment.
A vision formed behind his closed eyelids. The woman, curves where a woman should be curvy, black hair in fat curls dangling down her back, and not a stitch of clothing in sight, danced. The spotlight she moved in front of gave him the perfect outline of her body and a tantalizing hint of her identity. He’d know her anywhere. His mouth watered, and he longed to touch her. He slid down in his seat and thanked the Goddess the desk hid his erection. He cupped the bulge in his pants with both hands and stroked in time with her swaying.
Kaia Martin. His tiger roared from within. The moment he laid eyes on her, he and his animal knew she’d complete him. Whether she’d fit in with him and his brother … they’d figure that out soon enough. Better to tempt her with one tiger than to scare the living fuck out of her with both of them at the same time.
He rested his head on the back of his chair and continued to stroke himself. He needed to see her. The Glass Martini Gentlemen’s Club sucked in so many ways. Too much cigarette smoke, too many drunken men trying to paw the girls, and more than a couple of girls trying too hard to hit on the paying customers. He’d begged his sister, Sonya, not to work there, but being the wild card of the family, she ignored whatever he said. Then he met Kaia. Kaia served as the bright spot in his life.
I’ve always dreamt of writing the stories in my head. Tall, dark, and handsome heroes are my favorites, as long as he has an independent woman keeping him in line. I love playing with words and letting the characters run wild.
NASCAR, Ohio farmland, dirt racing, animals and second chance romance all feature prominently in my books. I also write under the pen name of Megan Slayer. I’m published with Total-E-Bound, Resplendence Publishing, Changeling Press, Liquid Silver Books, Turquoise Morning Press, Decadent Publishing and The Wild Rose Press. Come join me for this fantastic journey!
If you like my work, tell your friends and email me. I love hearing from readers!
Between the Covers - Body Cravings
Here is a few lines from Body Cravings (Seductive Pursuits, Book # 1). Enjoy.
Jacques stopped and studied her, an unfathomable expression on his face. “Amara, I want to give you a gift for all of your hard work. What do you want?”
The words tumbled out before she could even think about them. “I want you naked on a chair and ready to do whatever I want.”
Snippet Saturday - Smooth Operator
Today’s snippet theme is Smooth Operator. Enjoy a look from one of my books.
An snippet from Wilde Rapture…
“How did you find me? What are you doing here?” she snapped.
“I Googled you and found out what precinct you worked out of. Imagine my surprise that you were only a few blocks away from Wilde Hotel. As for why I’m here… I’m an old-fashioned man who likes to say goodbye to my bed partners.” Darius’ tone was mild.
“It was just sex. Just last night. I thought you understood that. No morning after and all that needed.” She ran her fingers through the back of her hair.
Darius reached up and took her hand. He held it in his. With his other, he raised her face and looked her in the eyes.
“I did understand, and I agreed to it for the night. But, in case you didn’t realise, it’s morning. So the night is past. And now I want you to stop running and think about this.”
He kissed her. All thoughts fled from her head. His kiss was soft and more devastating than if he had ravished her. That she could have handled and dismissed. The tenderness unravelled her. Holding her against his solid frame, he seduced her with a kiss. Made her forget all else but being in his arms. Nia sighed, moulding her body to his. Darius made a pleased sound and continued his sensual assault.
Nia gripped his shoulders, moaning. His fingers smoothed under her breasts, making them ache for him to taste them. They hadn’t got to that last night. She wanted him to bite them and suck them until they were sore and well used. Darius pulled back, hands laced loosely around her waist. His blue eyes were possessive and tender. Her pussy flooded even more at the look.
“We don’t even know anything about each other,” she whispered.
“Then get to know me. Be with me, Nia. The choice is yours. Next time you come by, plan on spending the night again. This time, bring a bag so you don’t have to rush away to get ready for work,” he said.
“That isn’t the reason I left,” she admitted.
“I know.” A small smiled curled his lips.
“You make me lose sense. I don’t like it,” she snarled.
“Ditto,” he countered.
Nia paused, biting the inside of her cheek. Darius raised one hand and gently rubbed it against her cheek, stopping her. She turned her head and kissed his palm. He went still. Nia glanced at him. Darius’ eyes were brimming with emotion. She lowered her gaze, not sure what was happening between them.
“When you’re ready, come to me,” he whispered.
Darius released her. Nia raised her head and frowned at his retreating figure.
“Why do I always have to come to you?” she yelled.
He turned to face her, walking backwards. “Because this time it’s your turn.”
Nia scowled. He was right, damn him. If she thought about it, in the alcove he had come to her. Then she had gone to him last night. Now, today, he had come to her. The next move would be hers.
SEASONAL READS
It’s summertime! Woohooo!
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of summer versus winter, is reading on the beach, or on a deck with the scent of chlorine water wafting through the air and the sounds of people diving in, splashing about in my ear. You will notice that I didn’t say I would be the one in the water. Of course not, I’m much more interested in sitting poolside with a book in hand. It amazes me that I have a specific book in mind when I prepare for summer vacation. Yes, the term “summer reads”, usually can be spotted anywhere from bookstores and book blogs, to Facebook and Twitter pages as a promotional tool. But for me, there are actually specific books that I like to read in the summer versus reading in the winter. Weird huh? Okay, I’ll claim that title for the remaining three months. LOL
As a general rule my summer reading selections must be “feel good” books. I really enjoy being swept away by a grand romance or a steamy love affair, so I tend to select books in the contemporary romance and erotica genres. There’s just something about relaxing in real life, taking a break from the day job and all the other stresses of the world, and having a firsthand view of a couple’s fall into love. Small town contemporaries have been a great source for this type of satisfying story, a series so that with each book I feel like I’m living right in that town with those townspeople.
Now, during the colder months I lean more towards the paranormal and urban fantasy genres just because they pull me into different worlds completely, which is always a welcome change from the snow and ice we experience in Maryland. These stories oftentimes cloak me in a sense of danger, deception, intrigue, and sexiness that lends itself to sitting in front of a fire with a nice cup of tea.
Have you ever thought of selecting your books to read by season? If so, what are some of your preferences?
The Donovans Volume 1
Pleasured by a Donovan
A dangerous Donovan.
Benjamin Donovan is one of Las Vegas’s top defense attorneys, his dynamic and debonair personality winning kudos in the courtroom, while breaking hearts in the process. But Ben draws the line at going against his ethics, except when those ethics lead a line of murder directly to his door.
And the woman that steals his heart.
She’d been rejecting him for as long as she’s known him and years later, prosecutor Victoria Lashley is still giving Ben a run for his money. Only this time, Victoria has no choice but to team up with Ben as her job is on the line and the killer she’s prosecuting has set his sights on her.
Will she lose the biggest case of her career, along with her life? Not if a Donovan has anything to do with it.
Heart of a Donovan
A FamilyAffair.
Regan Donovan loves her family first and her job second. She’s never been the “happily ever after” type and prides herself on keeping a cool head at all times—until Gavin Lucas shows up at the Donovan Family Reunion, uninvited, unwelcome, and undeniably irresistible.
Risking It All.
She absolutely despises him and has made no secret of that fact. But Gavin Lucas knows better, he’s seen the passion in her eyes and the spark of attraction between them keeps him awake at night. Regan Donovan is the woman for him, the one he’s yearned for all his life. She’s also the reason he’s traveled to the Donovan private island when he should have been promoting his restaurant, because Gavin will stop at nothing to win the heart of this Donovan.
A weather disaster is predicted, an escaped convict is on the loose, and a wedding will be interrupted—will love once again prevail for the Donovans?
Exploring Family Dynamics
by: McKenna Jeffries
Family is interesting to explore. I love exploring families. No matter what type. Family isn’t about the blood it’s all about what is in the heart. There are millions of definitions you can have of family. I like exploring the many different type of families in my books. More specifically the dynamics of them. Here is a definition of family and my own.
The Typical Dictionary Definition of Family ~
A fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children.
The McKenna Jeffries Definition of Family ~
Individuals who share ties either through blood or through a deeper bond that surpasses friendship that shares in each other’s lives to create a close knit unit of familial relations.
I’ve worked on many books about family. About the variety of family dynamics. I love exploring the complexities of my characters. Enjoy building families either by blood, circumstances or something that binds them together as family. There is so much to explore in families. The dynamic of them is fascinating to me.
Thinking of family brings memories of my own moments of families either traditional or non. My family by blood is there for me and I love them very much. I also have some really great friends who are family to me. They are there when I need an ear, someone to cry with, celebrate, share secrets or just being there. And I am there for them too. The diversity of having such families helps when needing a varying opinion. I think of the moments I have shared good, bad and in between with all my family. And I am grateful for each.
These moments of family are what I love exploring in my books. How no matter what happens there is someone in your corner when you need them. Someone there who will hold you up when you need. Or help you plot the best course of action if needed. Or if needed just be with you as you deal. It’s all about the relation of family.
Think of some moment in your life and give me what is your own definition of family?
Jasmine Hamlin unwittingly makes a proposition to her friend Reese Bryant. She tries to recant but he dares her to take a chance to walk on the wild side. Unable to resist the dare and the passion she feels for him she accepts.
Her plan? They play by her rules and the affair will end when they both are fulfilled- as long as she can keep her control they can still be friends. But Reese wants to be more than friends.
His plan? To break her rules even as he fulfills her fantasies and make sure their affair never ends.
Excerpt:
I can't enjoy the damn movie. I don't understand why I can’t stop thinking about him. Snap out of it. He is your friend. You share almost everything. Except sex! Oh, there’s the problem. But I can have sex with him. Oh, stop it! Get that out of your mind. Sex! There it goes again! What would I say?
"I want you--naked, sweaty, on the floor, the wall, or anywhere I can get you." The words were out before she even realized she’d spoken aloud.
She looked into his shocked face, horrified. "Please tell me I did not say that out loud.” She felt her cheeks heat in mortification.
A roughish grin spread over his face as Reese replied, “Yes, you did.”
“I didn’t mean it. I’m in a huge nightmare. Forget I said it.” Jasmine covered her eyes, bending her head forward.
“No, I won’t forget it.” His voice deepened, sounding even sexier.
“You always had a mean streak in you. I don’t know why you can’t give me a break and do something I say for once,” she rambled through her splayed fingers.
Reese reached over, lifted her hands from her eyes, then put them over her mouth, gazing at her. She was startled by the desire she saw etched on his face.
“Jazz, stop. You said it, and if you would let me reply: I agree.”
Her eyes widened as Reese slowly let go of her hands.
She stared at him, dumbfounded. What do I do now? She breathed in and out quickly. Fear choked her.
“Jazz, are you hyperventilating on me? Say something. Come on, don’t lose it on me. I’ve been waiting for this for two years.”
“Why? When?” she croaked.
“When what?” he asked. Jasmine stared at him. He stared back at her with a look that dared her to say it, and she never backed down from a dare.
“When do you want to do it?”
“It? You can do better than that. Tell me what you want, and I might answer you,” Reese arrogantly replied.
“Sex! All right? Sex! There. I said it! You are so frustrating. Happy now?”
Smugly, he replied, “Yes, I am. Now.”
“Now what? You want to torture me some more?”
He looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
“Oh. You mean, ‘now’?” She was looking into his heated hazel eyes. Only, they were no longer hazel, but had liquefied into a steaming topaz. The desire she saw in them took her breath away. Shaking her head, she backed away from him. Nodding, he followed her. Recovering from her surprise, she stopped backing up and stood her ground.
“Stop looking at me like that.”
“Like what?”
“Like I’m an ice cream cone you can’t wait to lick up and down.”
“I don’t want to lick you up and down.”
She released a quick breath.
“I want to eat you whole.”
A feline mated to a werewolf?
As a Chimera, half lioness/half human, Alexis Xanthis, has never released the beast within. Until she meets Lykan Alpha, Morgan LeVey. Being near him triggers a powerful need to mate, but is Morgan strong enough to dominate her feline side and still handle the human half with a gentle hand? And will the powers that be allow it?
Excerpt
Morgan grinned as Alexis groaned on the other side of the door.
“Hold on,” she called out. “Who’s there?”
“Morgan.”
“Morgan? Morgan who?” she asked sleepily.
“The Morgan whose clothes you borrowed.” The door opened slowly, and he smiled when he saw his shirt on her sweet little body.
“I was going to return them,” Alexis whispered, shoving a wave of caramel colored hair out of her face. The shirt hem lifted high on her thigh. His cock began to thicken, and he shifted to relieve the discomfort.
“I know. I read the note you left.”
“Then why are you knocking on my door at four-thirty in the morning?”
Morgan turned his head, calling out to Rafe, who handed him a box before going back around the corner with a sneeze. Morgan held the box out. “To invite you.”
“Invite me where?”
“My house. Tonight. Six sharp. I’ll send a limo to get you.”
“I...I don’t know.”
“Don’t forget to bring my clothes.” He smiled, his gaze traveling down her form, his cock hardening painfully. “You can keep the shirt. I like seeing it on you.”
Leaning in, he kissed her softly, sensuously. His arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her close. Alexis’s pulse pounded in her ears as he claimed her mouth, nudging her lips open with his tongue, exploring and caressing her with its velvety softness. His other hand trailed down her back to the flare of her hip.
Nipping her bottom lip with his canine, he marked her with his scent, then suckled until the small wound stopped smarting.
“Wear your hair down for me.”
Alexis opened heavy eyes as his broad back rounded the corner. Lifting her hand, she touched the spot on her lips where he’d nipped her. The muscles of her pussy tightened with want, and her panties dampened. “Ah, crap.”
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR TAIGE CRENSHAW!!
Sooooo….anyone who knows me is very clear on the fact that I love a good party (but all of you who attended the Naughty Girls PJ Party at RomCon 2013 are STILL sworn to silence; LOL). I was even a professional party planner for 12 years, with stories that are best told over wine and guacamole, so hit me up if we’re ever together. *Grin.*
But my FAVORITE parties of all are definitely birthday parties—which makes me a thrilled party guest today! THANKS for inviting me to the fun, Taige, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! For party favors, I’ve brought along “I Love Hangin’ With a W.I.L.D. Boy” dog tags, as well as Pop Tart ice cream sandwiches. Everybody dig in—to the men OR the ice cream or BOTH!—and enjoy as I share a little snippet from “Handcuffed By Her Hero,” my newest release in the W.I.L.D. Boys book series.
A special note of HUGE thanks to everyone who has read Zeke’s story so far, and voiced such tremendous support for the story. I really appreciate all the wonderful comments nd feedback you’ve had!
“Handcuffed By Her Hero: W.I.L.D. Boys of Special Forces, Book 2”
Blurb:
Between a rock and a hard place.
To Sergeant Zeke Hayes, the expression has always been a non-factor. There's never been a situation he can't blast, punch, or smart-ass his way out of, which makes him the perfect fit for his Special Forces battalion--and a natural-born Dominant who's made a lot of submissives happy from Mt. Rainier to Vancouver.
That all changes when Rayna Chestain enters his world.
A rock.
From the moment Z snatches Rayna from the lair of a South Asian slave trafficker, his inner grizzly roars to life. This is a huge damn problem, because Z isn't wired to be a one-woman man. Growing up an orphan on the streets of Seattle has taught him that beyond a few hours in a dungeon, trust means disappointment and love leads to agony. But here he is, in the remote wilderness escape he'd promised not to share with anyone, harboring Rayna from a fiend who now wants his pound of revenge flesh from her.
A hard place.
Sheltering Rayna? Z's never done anything more right in his life. But wanting her? Dreaming of her beneath him, surrendering to his passion and domination? It's the most forbidden fruit he can crave...and the only thing he can't stop thinking about.
A new beginning?
This is a dead-end canyon that no rifle, bomb or sweet talk will let Zeke escape from. The only way out is to confront the reality of what Rayna has done to him...the mountain she's moved in his intractable heart.
Excerpt:
For a long moment, neither she nor Zeke said a thing. The room began to warm. Rayna wasn’t sure if it was the heating ducts, the Scotch, or the proximity of the man who once again had transported her to a place of refuge and safety. She needed to thank him. She yearned to hold him. Instead, she jabbed a toe at the carpet and muttered, “So what now?”
Z let his hand slip from hers. She told herself that she was imagining his reluctance about the move. “A shower for you. Or a bath, if you prefer that. While you’re cleaning up, I need to call Hawk and Captain Franzen. I’ll get the run on how they’re tracking Mua, and make sure both of us are taken off the AWOL grid.”
“Damn. I’d forgotten about that not-so-little slice of red tape.”
One side of his mouth quirked. “It helps to have kidnappers in high places, honey.”
She shot him a giggle. Zeke, clearly pleased with himself for inciting it, sauntered toward the stairs. She gave herself the privilege of watching him for a second. Sweet shitloads of sexy, the man was captivating. His leather club pants moved with his Sequoia tree legs like a second skin. His biceps and pecs fought the constraints of Max’s T-shirt. Nothing in any of his movements betrayed that he hadn’t slept in over twenty hours.
And all she wanted to do, even in her own sleep-deprived state, was get her hands all over him again.
Not a good plan, Ray. Not at all. She fished through the fuzziness in her head to get back the words he’d issued in the car, after that toe-curling kiss they’d shared. Shouldn’t have happened. And it won’t happen again. So the man was beautiful and smart, especially about this. No matter how perfectly their bodies fit, they simply weren’t going to snap right when it came to the same sexual “Like” button.
She prodded her brain to agree. Shoved at the damn thing. Submissiveness? On a regular basis? Her? Right. And tofu was a great side dish for steak.
Biography:
Hi there. I’m Angel: book lover, hopeless romantic, pop culture geek, shoe addict, coffee-aholic, and occasional wino, too.
I’ve been hooked on books since I was a kid but it all got even worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances—the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer-type manliness surrounded me, certainly didn’t help to assuage the need for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed—though my path toward erotic romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets…backstage passes…that was sort of a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, and a very, very bad try at a Young Adult novel (don’t ask; it’s not pretty).
These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter and a crazy dog. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.
Taige Crenshaw Birthday Bash with Seressia Glass!
Hello, everyone! I’m here to wish a Happy Birthday to Taige—and offer a present to you! Personally, I love birthdays. To me, they’re like New Years, Christmas, and spring cleaning all rolled into one—a chance to evaluate where you are, where you’re going, and to reward yourself for good (or bad) behavior. Besides, who doesn’t love an opportunity to give themselves a present without guilt?
I celebrated my birthday in June, and I think I’m having a pretty good year writing-wise so far. I’ve started a series of sexy novellas featuring jackal shapeshifters called the Sons of Anubis. The series gives me a chance to explore my naughty side and indulge my fascination with ancient Egypt mythology, so it’s like a gift I gave myself that keeps on giving. I look back on the past year and realize I’m moving forward in ways I love, while still having areas that need tweaking. Looking ahead, I know I’m going to have a pretty good year. The power of positive thinking!
So here’s to birthdays! Proof we’ve survived and in some ways, thrived. What do you do to mark your birthday?
Oh- I did mention presents, didn’t I? I’m giving away a copy of my first two Sons of Anubis novellas, Seducing the Jackal and Hunting the Jackal, for your preferred reading platform. Just enter the prize giveaways that is posted throughout the day.
Here’s the blurb for Seducing the Jackal:
Centuries ago, tragedy severed the alliance between the jackal shifters and powerful Egyptian priestesses. But when four of his brothers succumb to a deadly curse, clan commander Markus kidnaps one of the witches and insists she undo the evil magic.
Although Tia can undo the curse, she insists her coven is not behind it—and she is shaken to her core by her intense attraction to her captor. The sparks between them quickly ignite, filling them both with passion and power unlike anything they’ve ever known. Will it be enough to heal the rift between their peoples?
Now, enjoy an excerpt:
“Release me, jackal!”
Markus’s eyes widened as the witch’s power punched him, causing him to rock back on his heels. Not so weak after all. Obviously she needed her passions provoked in order to fully tap into her power. Something told him provoking her passions wouldn’t be a problem.
He wasn’t sure what he’d expected when weeks of reconnaissance had finally come to fruition, but this woman wasn’t it. She appeared young, though that was hardly an indication of age for their long-lived races. He knew she still had a healthy student loan balance, and her driver’s license stated she was mid-twenties. It was unusual for a witch so young to live outside of the safety of a coven, which was why he’d expected someone older, wiser, more of a challenge. Had she been thrown out of the Lotus Circle because she wasn’t powerful enough?
No, he’d felt her power when she’d gotten angry. It was there, waiting for her to tap into it. Maybe she was bait, living away from the protective circle of witches in order to trap the Sons of Anubis. His hand lifted, fingers wrapping around the gold Anubis-head talisman all adult jackals wore. Let the witches try. He and his jackals had survived and would continue to do so. No sacrifice would be too great.
He stared at the witch. If would be a shame if she was part of a trap. Women like her had always been a weakness to him—long-legged, thick in the thighs and full in the chest; eyes sloe, dark, fathomless and large in her copper-skinned face. Just the sort of woman he would pursue if he had the time or the inclination.
He had neither. Not with Lost Ones walking the night. Certainly not with someone targeting the Sons of Anubis. Not with two of his clan brothers so close to death just down the hall.
Markus fisted his hands. This Isis witch was a tool, a means to an end, nothing more. He couldn’t think about his need, how long it had been since he’d enjoyed a woman. He had to think about his clan, their survival and their eternal fight against the undead. Not the need that spiked through him every time he felt her magic.
Angry with himself for being distracted, he bared his teeth at her. “For both our sakes, I hope you aren’t weak. If you’re weak, then you’re of no use to me. And if you’re no use to me…”
Taige Crenshaw Birthday Bash with Aliyah Burke!
The Pantzers versus The Plotters
I must admit, it took me a while to figure out what to blog about. So after thinking on it for a while, I thought I’d talk a tiny bit about pantzing vs. plotting.
First, however, I must say a big Happy Birthday to Taige! So, “Happy Birthday!” and thanks for letting me be part of your celebration bash.
I’m always intrigued by other authors’ writing process. I’m curious by nature and love to hear how others create the stories I love to read. So, one of my first questions is almost always “Are you a plotter? Or Pantzer?”
Me, personally? I’m a pantzer. Full on pantzer. To have to sit down and plot a story…the thought makes me shudder. (And not in a good way) I don’t fill out 2-20 page character sheets nor do I have stickies everywhere with color coordinated strings connecting them to lay my story out for me. Yes, I know people who do this. I will say I’m impressed by those who can do that, for it’s a feat well out of my grasp.
I learn the characters as I go and am often (mostly pleasantly) surprised by how something works itself out. I love that. Love it. I want to go on adventures and have situations pop up unexpectedly. To me it makes the journey of each story all the more exciting.
I know there are those who claim their way is the correct one. Me? I disagree. No one person can—or should—tell another about your writing process. For that’s what it is, yours.
Personally, I’ve never understood how you can tell a character how they will react, everything that’s going to happen, or things like that. However, I would never begrudge your process (not other than fun of course). Writing is a craft and we each must approach it how we do best. How it works for us to have the creative juices flowing so we can paint our masterpieces. Not how a fellow author does it.
So, all that being said…here’s my big question. What say you?
Plotter? Or Pantzer?
His Purrfect Mate
Blurb
Dane Sidorov needs a break and time to heal. What he doesn’t need is a cute little and most definitely sexy distraction named, Aida Roberts. Or the emotions meeting her stirred up within him. But this dark-skinned vixen didn’t seem to realize what she had done to him, or what she means to his soul.
Aida Roberts loves her life in South Africa. She has met all kinds of people, some who need help and some who don’t, but all interesting. When she runs into the larger-than-life Dane Sidorov, she wondered if he didn’t actually need help despite his portrayal calm and confidence.
There was something wild and untamed about him as he stared at her with his amazing eyes. A feeling of “safety” and “danger” emanated from him. Would this unusual man be able to let her in, or would his secret drive them further apart? When the darkness threatens, will Dane sacrifice himself or allow her to help save him? Can he accept the fact she is nothing less than…
Excerpt:
Dane Sidorov sagged against the tree’s thick trunk. Blood poured from his arm, running to the frozen ground.
“Damn,” he muttered. “Much more of this and a wet-behind-the-ears kid will be able to track me.”
Reaching into the medpack he carried velcroed to his uniform, Dane grabbed some bandages and a suture kit. Gritting his teeth, he sewed up the wound, tied it off before biting through the string, and wrapping it with the gauze. Tugging down his shirt sleeve, he shoved his arm back into his white parka. Sure, he didn’t need to do it this way, but…well, it better...safer.
The bitter cold of the air told him he still lived, even if he didn’t really feel that way. His ears picked up on incoming choppers. Four of them. No doubt filled with men who’d kill him without hesitation. Dane didn’t fault them for that. It was their job.
Just like it’s mine to keep that very thing from happening.
“Crypt. Where are you?” The question rang in his ear.
Despite the pain in his arm, which actually was more of an annoyance than anything, he smiled at Demon’s voice. “Fell down a rabbit hole. Have to follow my nose.”
“Status?”
Glancing at his injured arm, Dane replied, “I’m good. Will meet at the rendezvous site.”
“See you there.”
Silence reigned, and he scanned the night sky again. Closer. They are much closer now. The choppers had grown louder. Skimming his tongue over his teeth, he began to run. Each step he took put more distance between him and the enemy. The urge to stay and finish what they’d started swamped him, and for a few seconds, he stopped and hesitated, staring back in the direction he’d come. Until duty overtook personal longings. With a sigh, Dane moved out. He progressed slower and more cautiously, closer to the extraction point. The hair on the back of his neck prickled with warning. He dropped to the ground, all senses straining to find the danger.
“Slim,” he said, getting in contact with the head of the unit.
“Go ahead, Crypt.”
“Something’s off.”
“Chopper’s here. We leave in two. Where are you?”
Dane shook his head. “It’s not right. Get out of there.” He slithered on his belly toward the helo holding his friends. His unit.
“They’re coming, Crypt. We have to get going. Get your ass here now! That’s an order.”
“Get out!” Dane lunged to his feet and began to run toward the helicopter, uncaring of the fact he totally exposed himself. “Get out of there!”
“We’re powering up. Either you’re here or we’re gonna have to meet you at the second rendezvous.”
The low whine of the chopper’s engine reached him. Dane pushed himself faster, calling on more speed. He burst from the tree line and headed for the bird. In the splinters of light he could make out the tense face of Doc.
Where’s Slim? He should be by the door. Dane couldn’t pick out his silhouette in the interior of the helo, and he could see pretty well. Two more steps were all he took before a fiery blast engulfed the helicopter, lifted him off his feet, and knocked him back into the trees. He hit hard, the sturdiness of the old tree not giving an inch to his body.
Fragments of the helicopter rushed by him, cutting through his parka and digging into his flesh. Dane didn’t have time to yell before darkness overtook him.
Voices reached him, stirring him further from the hold unconsciousness had upon him.
“I don’t know. He should be here. He was almost to the chopper when it blew. Hell, for all I know his body may have been incinerated as well.”
“Collect the rest of the wreckage.”
That voice rang familiar. Anger stirred and rose up within Dane. He could smell the gun oil and made out eleven separate heartbeats. Instinct took over, and Dane lay in wait, blending in with nature, his gaze fixed on one man of the group. A man he had trusted with his life. He snarled silently, his razor-sharp fangs thirsty for blood. The traitor’s blood.
“Wreckage is gathered, sir. No bodies. Only some blood and prints.”
“Prints?” the man asked. “Boot?”
“No sir. Animal. Tiger. And it looks like a big one.”
A loud roar pierced the frozen night. Eleven heartbeats sped up. The scent of their fear permeated the cold air. A smell which served to feed his desire to kill. Kill them all.
“I think the tiger wants us out of his area.”
“Can’t we shoot it? Always wanted to bag me a tiger.”
“No! They’re very protective of the few remaining. It’s probably tagged, and there would be a big investigation were it to be found dead or missing.”
“Damn. All that care of a dumb animal. And the people?”
“It was a Black Op. Never happened. Let’s go.”
As their chopper lifted off, another roar sliced the air. One of anger, hate, and the promise of retribution and revenge. Tawny-green-gold eyes followed the path the helicopter flew, and when it could no longer be seen, they closed, and the darkness came again.
