Taige Crenshaw Birthday Bash with Wayne Jordan

AUTHOR WAYNE JORDAN

 OF READING AND ROMANCE….

I love to read. Maybe I’m strange to confess this, since the world we live in is a world of technology with a generation of young men and women whose prefer to be texting or posting meaningless messages to twitter and Facebook. Rarely, do I see ‘reading‘ listed as a hobby. Instead, dull eyes prefer to be glued to a LCD display where sound and visual stimuli enchant with its magic and instant gratification.

I love to read. For me reading is not only a source of entertainment, but an activity which took me to a place where I could escape from the drudgery of life and find meaning.

I read all genres. However, while I love the thrill of adventure, the intensity of suspense and the profoundness of literary fiction, the passion of romance continues to compel me with its ability to make me feel good about life and myself. In the world of romance, I am able to journey to places I can only dream of visiting. I’ve sailed along the canals of Venice, skied on the slopes of the Alps, and danced under a crescent Paris moon.

I’ve always seen a book as a story of an individual’s journey of self-discovery. In the stories I write, I want to introduce readers to heroes and heroines who are just like they are, imperfect and slightly flawed, but who, because of circumstances in their lives, are forced to confront their imperfections. I expect to see them develop as characters who we can admire and aspire to be like. I want my characters to be good people.

I’m still one of those individuals who believe that a person’s life is made better and richer when he or she discovers the joy of reading. I am sure those of you who are readers have experience the unexplainable delight that comes when you open the first pages of that book you purchased in the bookstore two minutes ago and already, before you place the key in the ignition to head home, you’ve already read the first chapter.

I’m one you believes that we are all destined to be readers. Unfortunately, not everyone feels that way. Sadly, they don’t know what they’re missing.

I’LL STAND BY YOU EXTRACT

He was downright gorgeous. No, he was more than gorgeous.

Inside the phone rang, but she refused to move. She just wanted to feast her eyes on the hunk that was stepping out of the complex's swimming pool.

She groaned in disappointment. He wasn't wearing the tight Speedo she'd anticipated. Instead, he wore loose-fitting boxer shorts that revealed very little.

However, her eyes immediately lowered to that telltale bulge noticeable through his soaked shorts. She giggled softly.

And then, the unexpected happened. The man slipped out of the shorts and tossed them onto a pool chair.

He stretched his hands in the air, and Eboni closely observed his very fitted swim trunks.

She gasped.

Lord, have mercy.

He was loaded.

She could not breathe. All she could imagine was the pleasure that he was capable of giving her.

There was an air of confidence in the way he stood, as if he knew he looked fine. There was no one at the pool, but she had no doubt that if there were people there he would have dropped the shorts with the same nonchalance as he did now.

And then he hooked his fingers in the waistband of the trunks and…stopped.

He looked in her direction and it was only then that she realized that she had gasped a second time, and he had heard.

His fingers hovered at his waist, the smile on his face blatant, daring and flirtatious. Time stood still for a flicker of a moment, but in that moment something sparked between them.

* * *

Darren glanced up and saw the woman who lived in the condo adjacent to the one he used when he stayed nights in the city. While he owned the complex, he’d not met with her personally. His office manager had completed the sale.

She'd moved in a few weeks later. Though she wasn't his usual type, soft and delicate, there was something about her that intrigued him. Her youthful innocence made him feel…old.

The women he usually dated were drop-dead gorgeous. Actually, all the women he was usually seen with were beautiful, but she was different. While their beauty came from a bottle or a plastic surgeon, hers appeared natural and seductive.

When he'd arrived home from work an hour ago and realized there was no one in the pool, he'd decided to take a dip. He didn't do it too often, but on nights like these, when the high school girls who miraculously appeared whenever he went into the pool were nowhere in sight, it was safe.

He'd taken notice of his neighbor from the moment she'd appeared from behind the curtains of the glass door that led to her balcony just above the pool.
The fact that she'd been watching him furtively stroked his male pride.

On several occasions, he'd planned on walking over to her and introducing himself, but he'd decided against it. To say that he wanted her was an understatement, but wanting her didn't mean he had to have her. He prided himself on his self-control, which he'd perfected to a fine art.

His fingers were poised at the waistband of his trunks. He felt daring. At this time of night, people rarely came to the pool. He continued to stare at his neighbor and then he flicked his trunks downward.

The shock across her face was priceless. Of course, her retreating back was all he could see before he dived into the water.

I have been a reader since I was 3, yes I was a precocious child. I still read on average 3 books a week and have instilled the love of reading in my children.

I have reading listed on my resume as one of my hobbies. Well, my only one besides travel. I read at least 7 books a week while working full time and always have a book in my bag. I know reading has increased my vocabulary and spelling in a painless way. And while I primarily read fiction, I still learn stuff. My dad used to read Edgar Allen Poe's tales to us while giving us a bath when I was a kid which explains my love for paranormals and urban fantasy as well as msyteries. My fondness for romance I got on my own.

I think everyone should be a reader, as well. I've loved books since I was a child. I could hardly wait for the day when I could read the books for myself and not have to rely on someone else to read them to me. Loved the excerpt!!!

Anne: Along with reading and writing, I love, love to travel and have done quite a lot of it. Just returned from Atlanta attending the Romance Writers of American conference. I love Atlanta and can't wait to go to San Antonio next year. Of course, traveler that I am, I'm going to use my timeshare a good a bit earlier...and enjoy the city, since I've not been there before. I'll be definitely doing some touring, relaxing, reading and writing....in that order.
